Can we get a date on the board for the WFW? I have till I leave this Friday to put in for this date off so I can make sure I don't miss it. Other wise I am vulnerable on the call schedule. _________________ ~~~Diane~~~

I was asking the same thing a few weeks ago. For me it's got to be the 2/3rd, 23/24th, or 30/31 the middle two weekends are out. One of those being the Harts Prarie weekend anyways.
I have a different twist to purpose for WF to help with the shuttle situation. |

Can we NOT make it the 30/31, if possible? (I have family coming to town that weekend and likely will be going to the Canyon) Either of the other two weekends will work for me. _________________ ~Tracy

I would love to go on this one this year, but I cannot make the weekend of the 2/3 as I will already be out of town.
Based on the responses thus far ... it looks like the only weekend NOT excluded is the 23/24 weekend.
So - is that it? Will it be the 23rd & 24th? _________________ Cheers,

Haunted Halloween Hike
I'm thinking Haunted Canyon overnight backpack with Halloween attire preferred but optional on October 25th-26th
Candy is not optional, it is required. _________________ You can never eat too much candy... |

Well, for the first time I won't be in the support group for the WFW; I have reservation at Trailer Village in the Canyon from Aug. 20 to 29, but to save gas I'm not towing the Xterra and will depend on the GC shuttles. Hope Tim's new twist for shuttle situation turns out OK. _________________ John Richardson and Richie Rich, El Perro de Playero

Well it really isn't that complicated. Just a key swap thats all. One group (or few hikers) hike from the bottom up, the rest go the normal way. It's worked for Rim-Rim hikes and been successful for us on the ridgeline hikes as well. This canyon doesn't change that drastically in elevation so it shouldn't be TOO much more difficult going from the bottom up. I'll be one of them. I'm sure another person or two will join me as well. As long as we have 1 driver for each car on the opposite side it won't be a problem. Too count on volunteers just to drive up, shuttle people around and wait on them all day is a lot to ask of someone. Plus things happen and some people can't make it. This way the hikers are self reliant and not dependent on outside help.
What do you guys think? |

Um I feel like I am out of the loop, but what are you talking about for car shuttling and swapping keys? Where? When? Who? What? _________________ Anne

Just an idea for this years west fork wade. Do a search for previous years and it will give the event details. But for the quick version, it's a one way hike from the upper end of the West fork of oak creek canyon, 14 miles of boulder hoping, bushwaking, narrows, 5 or 6 swims ranging from 10 feet to 50-100 feet to the lower end of the canyon where you exit at Call of the Canyon Park off of 89A North of Sedona.
Previous years some people had volunteered to just camp the whole weekend and not do the hike, those people would drop everyone off a the trailhead, make the 1 hour drive around and pick us up in the afternoon. But I think we've had up to 14 people do this hike so that requires a lot of shuttle drivers.
Last year some people who had shuttled previous years couldn't end up making it leaving a big problem, so a few people end up not getting to do the hike and shuttled people around.
The key swap would solve that problem. Half the group starts at one end and half at the other end, swap keys in the middle and drive each others cars back to the campsite post hike. I've done that for Rim-Rim's and also we started doing that for the Ridgeline hike. |

OHHHH, ok....If I can go, I would be happy to help out with whatever you all need. IT sounds like fun, and I have never been on this hike before. Just depends on how my school year starts out! I met my new crew, and I have a pretty challenging group, it seems like No biggie though! _________________ Anne

Hi folks,
It's looks like lots of fun stuff in the works. I tore my ACL back around Easter so I'm out for leading anything until next year but I'm hoping to join the group for something simple like car camping if that happens to come up again later in the year. Had a really nice time at the Madera Canyon water campout last year.
