Hey Matt, I too have returned products to REI (rental equipment inc.), allthough having worked at the REI in San Diego for 2+ yrs, you should know that if you are becoming known as someone who returns gear ("a lot") the store can suspend your membership. Co-op or not. Just a tip to keep ya out of trouble. I hope to see ya on the trails. |

I think its *recreational* equipment inc, but thanks for the heads up.
Frankly though I'm not too worried about it. I don't think I abuse the policy, and it's not like I'm demanding that they exchange my stuff, I just go in and ask them about it. If they say they'll exchange it, I say the onus is on them. If they say no, then I walk away to shop another day.
What, do you suppose, qualifies as "a lot"? _________________ Cogito ergo ambulo cum sacculo

No implication taken.
You did raise a good point though, and it got me wondering at what point making full use of their policy crosses the line to abusing the policy. If they have a policy to deal with it, it must happen. I assume REI does that just to keep people from stealing equipment and returning it, but I wonder how far they're willing to take the policy with regard to their legitimate members. _________________ Cogito ergo ambulo cum sacculo

The ones who return obvously "well" used gear are usually marked as people who are focused on. REI has an amazing policy as a good co-op should. gear goes bad, but if it is seen that the customer gets an obvious good use out of a piece of gear, then tries to return it, AND a trend is present, then it is always at the discresion of the Customer Service Sales and Service Manager to decide wether a return is deemed worthy. |
