Anyone hiked up McDowell Peak (4,034ft)?
I'd like to access the Peak from the East near the Dixie Mine wash area.
Appears from the topo there's a possible route near the N/S trail that leads behind the McDowells? (between DC Ranch & the Thompson Peak utility road?)
Hiked the old/rough trail down Thompson Peak into the wash and all the way to the Mine so logical next step is McDowell Peak. |

Sounds like a good hike. I have been interested in this one myself for quite awhile. _________________ Mountains are there to be climbed!

I think a good warmup hike for this is Thompson Peak via the old trail which on the map (you know the problems with maps ) looks similar to McDowell Peak.
Suspect if you enjoy the old trail up Thompson Peak you'll like McDowell Peak? (McDowell Peak hike looks to be 11+ miles vs 9+ for Thompson) |
