Thanks for the well wishes guys! The move went well, and now we are just waiting to hear the good word on our loan and then we can close on our house.
In the meantime, I got a job at EMS (Eastern Mountain Sports, it's the same as REI for the most part). With the wicked discount that I receive, I should be geared up soon for everything I'll need for winter recreation. And I mean everything.
I have a feeling that I'm not going to hate hiking here. Here's a shot of Mt. Lafayette in the White Mtns. This was a fun, 8 mile loop hike with about 4000' of accumulated elevation gain. Needless to say, my quads hurt.
I am going back near this area tomorrow to do some more hiking. I can't wait! _________________ "Your day-glo ballet days are over." Ancient chinese proverb.

Dang, looks pretty good. I like the fact you can actually see the view, it's not obstructed by a lot of pesky TREES! I'll bet that ridge is bad in a storm or blizzard, though! |

Yeah, the views are incredible. This is one of the fews spots in the Whites outside of the Presidential Range that is above treeline. That particular portion of the trail also happens to be part of AT. I descended off Mt. Lafayette on the ridge to the left of the mtn. About a mile down, I encountered Eagle Lake(s). (there are 2 lakes; one is almost dried up.)
I was hoping that a moose would be standing there waiting for me to take its picture, but I wasn't that lucky this time. Maybe tomorrow when I take my wife to Lonesome Lake in the Whites. I can't wait to go back up there.
Speaking of wildlife, we've seen lots of turkeys and a deer, but no moose or bears yet. Supposedly the area we live in is crawling with both of those critters. Today we were raking some leaves that had accumulated against our house. There were lots of salamanders living in those leaves. Now they'll have to find somewhere else to live. We also saw some sort of cool frog in the leaves at our house. This evening, we went for hike to a pond in the woods and we saw a toad. Then we stopped by a huge marsh, where we encountered a Painted Turtle laying eggs in the mud. How cool is that?
I know this is a site dedicated to AZ, but I might have to share a little bit of NH with you. I can't seem to tear myself away from this site. It has been a big part of my life. Hopefully you'll all tolerate the occasional New England post. _________________ "Your day-glo ballet days are over." Ancient chinese proverb.

I don't mind seeing and hearing about your adventures... looks like you've found a good spot for you. And a very lucrative job to be able to get a discount on gear, sounds like you did well. :

Just wait till winter! That's when the adventure will really begin.
Today Liz and I saw a porcupine. That was really cool. Our hike today was awesome and a great workout. Not far, cause we got a late start, but the 1000' of elevation gain was just right.
I'm heading out again tomorrow to explore the Moose Mountains. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they hold true to their name. _________________ "Your day-glo ballet days are over." Ancient chinese proverb.

A "Painted Turtle", right... You licked the toad, didn't you? Bet you saw all kinds of cool things .
Nice shots Matt! The little woman and I are going to be out that way in October, so keep a toad handy for us, we want to see what you see!

You''ll probably be able to ice skate it a little later in the year. _________________ The bear went over the mountain to see what he could see. |
