Mars Rover Goes Unexpectedly Silent
Thursday, January 22, 2004
PASADENA, Calif. — NASA's Spirit rover stopped transmitting data from Mars for more than 24 hours, mission managers said Thursday, calling it an "extremely serious anomaly."
NASA received its last significant data from Spirit early Wednesday, its 19th day on Mars. Since then, it has sent either random, meaningless radio noise or simple beeps acknowledging it has received commands from Earth, said Firouz Naderi, manager of the Mars exploration program at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (search). The last such beep was received Thursday morning, Naderi said.
Initially, scientists believed weather problems on Earth caused the glitch. However, careful analysis of the final photo transmitted from the rover (shown below) is being performed to determine whether external causes from the martian surface may have contributed to the problem.

Now that's funny.
I was going to edit the picture and add a caption but I couldn't decide on which one -
"ALL YUOR BASE ARE BELONG TO US!!"
"got goat?"
"Take us to your tequilla."
Many others will come to mind I'm sure.

Good Golly Miss Molly? The words "goat" and "cute" should never be used in the same sentance - at least not in reference to each other.
Okay: "That really cute girl was scared to death by that damned ugly goat."
Not okay: "That goat is cute." _________________ "Only small minds want always to be right."

Yeah, I know this is an old topic, but it was a classic one. And I came across yet another Mars photo today that I thought I'd share with y'all...
That's my kind of planet!
Now if they'd just put a kiosk on the Flatiron, we'd be set... _________________ [/size] |
