Hi! I'm visiting the Tucson area and I'm not from AZ. I'm hoping to do a three day backpacking trip the last week in March.I've been looking outside of Safford just cause that area looks interesting. I was wondering if anyone has some recommendations outside of Safford or in the Tucson area:
Some fantasizes:
-passenger car accessible
-medium intensity
-not too cold at night (ie sleeping at high altitude)
-water available (????)
-quiet
Any suggestions is most appreciated
Thanks |

You may want to check out the Mule Shoe Ranch or Aravipa Canyon. I think they hit your criteria. They are closer to Safford than Tucson though. |

Yes, Aravaipa is super, but very difficult to get a permit at the last minute. Check the website to see. It's not that close to Safford, though, it's closer to San Manuel, if you go in the west side. Catalinas offer some low elevation options, such as Hutch's Pool, Romero Canyon. Rincons, you could hike to Douglas Spring, camp there, do some dayhiking out of a base camp from there. |
