Let's start the New Year off with a Group Hike! Meet at the Mesquite Trailhead in the White Tank Mountains at 8:30. The hike is between 8.2-8.6 miles with a fair amount of elevation. Here's a link to HAZ that explains the hike further. I like to do the hike a little different than he describes but basically it's a lollipop loop! I do the hike often and it's a nice little hike.

Can we have a car cmaping option? Todd and Lucy and I will probably stay out there Saturday night just for the fun of it! Anyone else? _________________ ~~~Diane~~~

Is anyone going to camp out on 12-31 and then hike in the AM?

What happened to the Full Dutchman on the 2nd? Is that going to be posted as an event? I have had it on the calendar for months. |

I didn't know a Full Dutchman scheduled for the second...I am pretty sure my knee is not gonna let me do a full Dutchman. It is gonna take a whole bottle of Ibu just to get this 8.6 in! _________________ ~~~Diane~~~

I would like to car camp. Should make for a nice night as long as there are no burn restrictions.

So happy to see so many signing up and thinking about the hike. I won't be able to camp with y'all (babysitting as usual); however, I will be at the trail head at 8:30! It's a nice hike to begin the year with! So come on folks! Let's get a nice group to begin 2011 with a group hike!
Elizabeth, I did hear that some are planning a hike for 2nd in the Superstitions. Maybe they will begin a thread about it soon. Since I've been driving to the east side so much to help search for Joe, I need to do a hike on the west side. I hope some will come to the west side and try out this hike.

I will put myself down as "being on the fence" and thinking about it. I just moved to AZ in June from New England and it would be fun to meet a new group of hikers! It'll be a drive for me, coming down from Prescott, but I'll keep this in mind and hopefully I can be more definitive about making it. I can't come down overnight, but would be willing to get up early enough to make it by 8:30 AM.

You're more than welcome Max! This is a great community to meet other hikers. You might want to come down the night before and camp out with the others. _________________ "A real friend is one who walks in when the rest of the world walks out."

Hi everyone, I'm a newb to the forum but would like to meet other hikers in the area. This hike sounds doable, but I'm wondering if y'all are fast hikers? I've been hiking all my life & have done some challenging things (longer hikes/backpacks, off trail/scrambling, etc.) however I've never been very fast so enjoy a group w/a more moderate pace.
A little history: I come from a family of hikers (my parents were leaders in the SAHC) & hiked pretty much every wknd (mainly in the Catalinas). Then about 16 yrs. ago I moved up to the Seattle area & have done lots of hiking in the Cascades, including Mt. Adams, Mt. St. Helens, & Enchantment Lks. to name just a few. Right now I am back down in Tucson visiting for the holidays, however, I am actively trying to move back to the southwest (dependent upon finding a job). Meanwhile I'd love to make some connections in the area to fellow hikers.
So, would this be a fast group? Sounds like the elevation gain isn't too bad considering the overall distance, so that helps me out.
Anyway, thanks in advance for your input! _________________ Home is where the hiking is. |

I like to try and make this one. Depends if I do the 5k New Years Eve! Elephant, I always go by my motto: Hike your own hike! If it is slow or fast, hike it. I hike a lot too, but I am a moderate hiker. This group has a wide range of hikers. Enjoy! _________________ Anne

Just want to make sure though that I won't be slowing everyone down/getting left in the dust, etc.! _________________ Home is where the hiking is. |
