Three hikers have been missing for nearly a week after setting out to find the Lost Dutchman Gold Mine in the rugged Superstition Mountains east of Mesa |

Amazing !! According to the article they had to find one of the three (Merworth) last year when he was searching for the gold. And they came back - wow. _________________ Become a skilled GPS user and it will set you free! |

This, coupled with the Jesse Capon disappearance, makes me think foul play is involved. Something drastic had to happen to make three people disappear. _________________ The bear went over the mountain to see what he could see. |

Hmmm, well, okay. But on the other hand, what about the Mexicans crossing the desert--sometimes several have died in the same group? And these Utah guys are not young. |

I saw this on the news the other night.......so sad. A few questions enter my mind though.
1. As George stated....why hike out there in the dead of summer?
2. From the article, it stated that some of the party had medical conditions and may not have had medication with them? Who goes hiking without a few days of their prescription meds?
Just really strange. _________________ ~~~Trish~~~

Makes me wonder if they are looking for them where they said they would be or where they were found last year. |

I saw an article interviewing one of the men's mothers. She had berated him to bring more water. They are wearing tennis shoes, and did not carry enough water with them, according to her. She indicated they were very poorly prepared. I think they could all be dead. Hope not. |

What on earth were they thinking?? That heat will killeven the most conditioned of us, given the circumstances. Doesn't sound promising. Sad. |

I have read the basic story, but I should read it again to refresh my memory. As I recall, as the story went, it was not actually a mine at all, but a place where gold had been hidden and Jacob Waltz found it. |

Why? Sorry but I don't agree. The guys are dying, they get separated, and they crawl under bushes for shade. Just like Mexicans dead in the desert, they will not all be together, but scattered, and they will be under bushes, possibly a long distance apart. It is going to be hard to look under every bush. Buzzards could give a clue, or not. |

Well, they went in from First Water. I wonder which way they went. I might take a jog out early Saturday morning if I can get to the trailhead. I would guess that trailhead is closed right now but I don't know how long SAR would keep it closed.
Surely they've checked the water holes. If they guys were not by a water source they'd be jerky by now. _________________ It is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring. -- Carl Sagan |
