|

OK, what do you guys think of this for New Year's Day 2004
Trail:
South Mountain Park National Trail (East to West)
Description:
We're looking at 14.6 miles. There will be plenty of elevation gain/loss (can't find exact numbers yet). We'll start on the East side at Pima Canyon and end at the San Juan Ramada. Maybe we can add the option of doing the Marcos De Nisa Ridgeline, Pima Canyon to Hidden Valley, then hook up w/ the National trail. Due to the plethora of trails in South Mountain, this hike will allow for "less than" epic hikers to join Epic hikers for a portion of the trail.
Segmented, the hike would be...
Pima Canyon to Buena Vista Lookout (3.59 miles)
Buena Vista Lookout to Telegraph Pass (3.01 miles)
Telegraph Pass to San Juan Road (5.84 miles)
And for those really wanting a short hike San Juan Road to San Juan Ramada (1.50 miles)
There's an additional 1/2 mile extention that climbs a small peak nearby as well
Additionally....
As there is a ramada at the end of the hike, post-hike festivities could take on a whole new light!
Start time...
Well...let's talk about that....http://www.arizonahikers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=846&highlight=
What do you all think? |

WHERE'S OUR EVENT LEADER? Are we still doing this and who's still going? Inquiring minds want to know.

I'm sure we'll hear from Colin soon. Personally I'm hoping it won't be too, too early. My solution for making sure the kids where home on time was to let them have a party here. Probably won't guarentee any more sleep but at least they will be home. All I need is a time and directions to the trailhead. From there on out I will just follow. |

I've just returned from back east (Illinois) for the holiday. And unfortunately someone else will need to take the lead with this hike...as of 10:30am today I'm iffy on being able to go...we only have a few spare days before me move, and we are no where near being packed . I'm not sure if I'll be able to spend the day hiking on the first, and I know I want to be at the anniversary hike/party...so something has to give....
If those planning to attend could take over with specifics I'd appreciate it. _________________ -Colin

My suggestion is that we do a different hike in South MT for the 1st.
We can do National Trail on another day when CK and others can join in. This would give us more time to plan and include everyone.
What does everyone think?

Unfortunately, I am going to have to back out on this one also. I have to go out of town earlier than originally planned and I want to spend the 1st with family. Sorry about the late departure. I would like to do the National Trail on a later date. Besides, this might give the trails some time to clear out from all of the people that have made New Years resolutions! Last year, the trailhead parking lots were full for a month... _________________ Steve |

Okay. Here's the deal for tomorrow. It looks as though the original hike plan has dwindled in "EPIC" proportions. (thanks a lot Colin...)
I suggest we cut this hike down to about a 7 mile loop (we can do the 15 later when most everyone can make it) from Pima trailhead out National trail through Hidden Valley and Fat Man's Pass. We can then loop back around to Mormon's trail and back to Pima.
This hike should be a leisurely total of ~5 hours depending on stops etc. This will allow for a later start time of like 9 a.m. (I'm sure party goers will appreciate that). I propose a meet time at Pima of 8:30 a.m.
What does everyone think of them apples??
Can I get a show of "hands"? Any other suggestions? |

Sounds good to me....and I LIKE THE LATER START TIME! (I'm one of those party-goers)
I'm at work so I'll check posts when I get home to see if anything has changed.
