I think the light rail has a deal, $3 or so for a day pass. Deanda and I were thinking about catching it in Mesa, probably ride it downtown to catch a meal at Cooperstown. Then stop at Tempe to watch their fireworks. Then catch the train back to our car and not have to deal with the traffic. _________________ It is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring. -- Carl Sagan |

Well, it's a ways from the Valley, but try Springerville Airport! We have awesome fireworks and a great small town 4th of July, complete with pancake breakfast, funky parade, rodeo, BBQ, Fri and Sat night dances, raffles and auctions, the whole-meal-deal, all at 85 degrees or less Fahrenheit!! and with no real traffic jams.
Plus, hikers are still needed in the parade for the "Quiet Recreation" float. (See my previous post.) And if you don't go to the rodeo, there's time for a very long hike between the parade and the evening events. South Fork to Mexican Hay is nearby, as is the Overland Trail, and Escudilla. |

Anyone in S. Scottsdale are, you can go to Papago Park near the Zoo and go up to the hill where Hunt's Tomb is. It overlooks a lot of the valley. |

Canon 40 D - Manual settings - F5-->f11 - infinity focus - 5-30s exposures & whole lot of luck -- I took only 30 shots.
I have got good results from lot less camera before ....
nominal postprocessing /cropping to get rid of the fence & wires that were in all my shots. _________________ Photos: http://www.pbase.com/desertgirl/galleries

I had to work at the guest ranch, and we drove the guests up the steep and narrow dirt road to the top of 10,229 foot Green's Peak to watch the fireworks at Sunrise Lake, which were about 8 miles away. I didn't think watching fireworks from so great a distance was the least bit interesting, but driving up and being on top of the mountain was fun! |
