It just started snowing. It rained overnight. I think it is too warm to stick for very long. However, maybe up higher than here. We're at 7,000. Maybe it will start to pile up a little bit up higher. |

Just some blowing dust and a bit of rain drops early this AM central East side of Tucson.

There is fresh snow in the Santa Ritas this morning and the snow level is down well below the crest. The Catalinas must have snow too as the Mt. Lemmon Highway is restricted to chained and 4WD vehicles above MP 14. Forecast calls for 4-8 inches above 6,000'. Woo-hoo!!! _________________ TucsonHikers - Southern Arizona's Hiking Network!

Snow ... I guess higher elevations makes sense.
Was woken up by the rain here. It comes down hard then slows. Back and forth Nice to hear the sound on the patio roof. Don't get to hear it that often _________________ Wanderingsoul (Michelle)

Well, it stopped. I hear Flag is getting more. That usually means we will get it next, tomorrow. Meanwhile the sun has come out, but it's cold outside. |

When does Flagstaff usually get its first snow, on average? I'm heading up to see Lockett Meadow for the first time, in early October, as well as Sedona and the Canyon. |

It can snow in the fall, or not. Sometimes it doesn't snow until January. The past few years have been up and down as to snow, especially fall snow. October's a bit early for the white stuff, though, which is why a lot of us like to hike the Grand Canyon in October and do a lot of other mid-elevation backpacks. It can snow then, but usually not. |

Ha, you had me freaked out! When I saw this post reappear in the middle of July I thought maybe it was snowing in the White Mountains.
How are the flowers up there?
I am thinking of doing a trip to Hannigan's Meadow 1st week of August. _________________ Those who dwell among the beauties and mysteries of the earth are never alone or weary of life. - Rachel Carson |

It's Hannagan Meadow. Just FYI. No "i" and no "s."
So, YES, the flowers are just amazing! Today we hiked the East Fork of the Little Colorado, from by Greer Lodge upstream a little ways. I learned some new flowers, brought several home to look up, and there were a LOT more I didn't know. Here is what I did see that I knew: Water Hemlock, Flax, Indian Paintbrush, Wild Rose, Monkshead, Spiderwort, Lupine, Penstemon. There were thousands of big tall yellow daisies, and lots of other kinds of white daisies and asters. Plus those geranium-like things. The monksheads were very tall, over 5 feet along the river, and growing in profusion. They are amazing. No photos, sorry.
Monsoon is really pumping up now, we did get rained on in Greer. I expect Hannagan is getting a lot of rain, too. Let me know if you'll be in the area, if you want company, I'll see if I can get away. |
