Thought this would be a good place to post the current water conditions in the Supes. As of Friday January 10, there is plenty of water out there if you know where to look! Whiskey Spring is not running, but there's water in the cement trough. LaBarge Spring is running nicely, if you can find it hidden away up on the bank beneath the trees. Charlebois, as always, has plenty of water - a lovely desert oasis. Bluff Spring has a decent trickle coming from the pipe, enough to fill a water bottle in about five minutes or so. Almost every canyon also has potholes containing various amounts of water, suitable for filtering. Happy Hiking! |

That is so awesome to hear about. Hopefully we'll get plenty more rain to sprout some of those wildflower seeds laying around from two springs ago.

On New Years Day I went out to Tortilla TH and hiked in on the Peters Trail a tad. Both Indian Spring (just a seep) and Kane Spring (good supply) had water. I also noticed a lot of wildflower sprouts comin' up as well. We still need more rain tho.

My first venture into the Supe's was in 1997. You could hear Boulder Canyon running from a mile away. I did a little trial run back pack out there and camped by a stream that probably doesn't run 1 year out of ten, never realizing at the time how fortunate I was. _________________ The bear went over the mountain to see what he could see. |

My friends and I always talk about how we hope to experience the creeks running - or flooding - sometime! |

The first time we hiked Canyon Lake to Peralta , La Barge Creek and Boulder were running like crazy. We could hear La Barge from the Boulder Canyon Trail. That was two springs ago in April 2001. There were people swimming in Boulder Creek.

The best place to find water in the desert is to take it with you. |

True - but I really enjoy finding water sources out there, and the info could certainly come in handy someday. |

Bet there's a bunch right now! I'm sure there will be bunches up at Reavis for the group going in there tomorrow. _________________ The bear went over the mountain to see what he could see. |

Yep - I'm planning on getting out somewhere on Monday to see how much water has accumulated. |

Well, I was thinking of doing Lower Barks Canyon again to see how much water is there now. Also considering Upper First Water Creek, Boulder Canyon, or LaBarge Canyon from Canyon Lake. I'm a little worried about the condition of Peralta Rd. to the TH after all that rain - I don't really like taking that road in my little car even when it's not washed out! |
