I just bought an "ENO Doublenest Hammock" from REI yesterday. Should be here next monday.
Didn't buy it for sleeping really, just kind of bought it for camp-site relaxing. I really hate sitting on some uncomfortable log or rock.. and reading in my tent can get uncomfortable after a while.
I figured for the reported "Grape Fruit" size packing, and the 1lb.. it would be hard to beat for afternoon naps.. I suppose if I really trusted the weather I could leave my tadpole 23 tent at home.
Anyways, anyone else tried carrying a hammock along for just camp site relaxing? Not as there primary sleeping unit? |

I can't answer your questions, but I have a warning for you...
You are about to be inundated by MikeinFHAZ with hammock links, hanger forums, pleas to ditch your tent completely in favor of a hammock and pictures of hammocks. I just want you to be prepared. _________________ "Your day-glo ballet days are over." Ancient chinese proverb.

For the most part -- where I go to backpack camp; finding trees / convenient rocks to hang a hammockjust does not work. I do use a hammock in camps ( mostly car camps for me) and think its awesome.
I think we need a hammock that can levitate .... _________________ Photos: http://www.pbase.com/desertgirl/galleries

congrats on your purchase. the Eagles Nest Outfitters make some nice gear. pitch the doublenest with a pronounced "smile" to get a flat, diagonal lay. (despite the name, its not made for two, that's the quickest way to a divorce, second only to a tandem kayak) _________________ http://www.arizonahikers.com/board/albums/albwb18/BRIDGE.sized.jpg

That's it!? That's all you've got to say?! Nothing more!? Oh Mike.... tisk tisk tisk..... I feel so.... let down. Are you getting complacent in your old age Mike?
By the way, I have a small hammock. Not meant for overnight sleeping but it does make for great reading in the shade when you are car camping! I am with Ambika though on the backpacking, I rarely have a good place to hang a hammock when I am back packing. _________________ ~~~Diane~~~

the American made Warbonnet hammock "traveller" is good for lounging and sub 12oz including suspension system is about as light as you can get. check it out: (the 1.1 single will hold 175lbs)

it would be a great addition to anyone's pack who just wants a hammock as a nap time toy
otoh, the Blackbird is the premier camping hammock - also made by Brandon of Warbonnet. _________________ http://www.arizonahikers.com/board/albums/albwb18/BRIDGE.sized.jpg

I have a backpacking Hammock , but never can find the right spaced trees to hang it in, so I have given up. I love my thermarest chair. _________________ Those who dwell among the beauties and mysteries of the earth are never alone or weary of life. - Rachel Carson |

I'm going to be working for Glen Canyon Natural History Association starting either late April or early May. Until then I'm just substitute teaching. _________________ Anywhere is within walking distance if you spend the time. |
