Cochise Stronghold East is located 72 Miles from Tucson in the Dragoon Mountains. We will be camping at 5,000 feet in Oak woodlands . By this date weather may be a bit warm in the day and at least comfortably cool at night. No water at the campground so you will need to bring your own.
From Tucson take 10 East at US 191 go South to Sunsites, AZ. Ironwood Road will take you West and into the Forest. The road will turn into FR 84 at the Forest Boundary. Continue until you get to the Campground. The road is bumpy and in rainy weather has aprox 5 stream crossings, so don't bring the Corvette.
Smile
We will meet Saturday afternoon for those who want to camp. Sunday, hike departs by 9 AM . We will do the Cochise Trail. 4 miles each way, aprox. 1,000 elevation gain. The trail is moderately challenging, but I do like to go off trail on the way back up a drainage to a nice waterfall.
I know we like to eat so bring a Potluck item. Grills are available.
$10 a day camp fee per campsite.

Thanks. I found it on the home page. I don't always check out the entire site. I usually just click the link to take me to new posts. Sorry. I missed the dates. I'll check what's going on at work and hopefully I'll be able to make it.

Darn, I work that weekend. Thanks for organizing this, I hope a lot of people go. I've been to Chiracowa Nat'l Monument. ( I know, my spelling is way off) It's a beautiful area of the state. I need to tromp around there some more.

Scheduling can always be a hassle for everyone. This just happens to be a weekend that I have free without any good SAHC hikes. If you can't make it this time I will reschedule for early fall.
I can open it up to a couple of other groups I hike with too.

Take care Everyone!
Keep on Hiking,

Very Happy

This sounds like a hike I'd be interested in. Went to the Mounment to see the hoodos one year for my B'day. Said I wanted to get back down that way. Very pretty area. I'll be checking the On-call schedule as soon as it is posted.

I won't be able to make this trip Sad . With the cut backs in education I feel it's best that I attend a job fair going on that weekend.

I'm bummed.

I rescheduled this for the next weekend, April 25. I will be doing a SAHC trip Saturday over to Fort Bowie so I decided to stop by the Stronghold to camp for the night and do the day hike Sunday 26.

Sorry to hear you're not feeling well either. First PageRob, now you. Hope you feel better soon. I'm hoping that I'll be free the next go around with this.
