What type of flashlight do you prefer for hiking, LED or traditional incandescent/halogen? |

I use a 3 in 1 combination headlamp, 2 red led, 1 white led & 1 krypton bulb. and usually carry a mitylite (by Pelican) for a backup. |

Incandescent. But that's only because I don't own an LED light of any sort. I'd like to try an LED some day to see if I like it better. _________________ "Only small minds want always to be right."

I have the Blackdiamond Gemni, but find it's in LED mode about 90% of the time. _________________

I have a the traditional one, but would love to have a LED. My light on my keychain is a LED. _________________ Mountains are there to be climbed!

Definitely LED. the only thing I don't like about the LED headlamp, is the "fishbowl" effect you get on the trail. Easy to get used to though. |

You'll know when you get one. It's kind of a "halo" effect around your line of sight. It also takes a bit to get used to depth perception too.
Don't let that sway your opinion... the LED headlamps are awesome. Last a looong time too. |

Toms right about the fishbowl thing, but I'll still take the LED over any other. The light is less noticible, it kind of blends in with the moonlight. Also, the batteries last a LOT longer with LEDs, especially if you get one designed with the energy-saving blink feature. |
