On March 1st I'm going to be leading a hike into a big
unnamed canyon in the heart of the Black Mountains in
the Warm Springs Wilderness, about 15 miles east of
Laughlin/Bullhead City.
This hike is meant to be fairly easy so more locals will
be enticed to come, but the group will most likely be
quite large and I plan to split off a tougher group
at the inner end of the hike for some exploring.
If you want to come, the way to get here is to go to Kingman
and then proceed south on I40 about 6 miles to the McConnico
exit, then go right for 1/4 mile to Oatman Road (old 66) and
travel west on it for about 10 miles to Navaho Road. Or you
can come up Rt. 68 from Laughlin, south on Aztec (paved) to
Shinarump (paved), then left until amost at I40, and then
turn right onto Oatman Road.
Alternatively you can come up from the river thru Oatman,
over Sitgreaves Pass, and on down to the valley floor with
Navaho a few miles out in the middle.
We'll be meeting up there at 9:30 for the run into the wilderness
in the more capable vehicles. Here's a .kmz for those with
Google Earth:
