Just went through another cycle of a beautiful full moon and made me start to think...what was your most memorable full moon?
There are many I can think of but here's one to get the thread started.
In June of 2007 I was still living in Michigan. I flew out west and met a friend of mine, who flew here from Montana. On the evening of the full moon we took a night hike in Sedona. It was awesome watching the moon rise over the red rocks of Sedona. Pretty cool full moon and a great night hike. We almost needed moon visors when the moon first came up...it was so bright.
So what was your most memorable full moon?

The (now) wife and I did a New Years climb and camp on the top of Escudilla from Hulsey Lake in '99. Cold as could be, lot of snow on the ground. We came out the Old Government Trail on the 2nd and as we were driving out shortly after sundown we were blinded by the full moon, probably because of the clean, cold air and all the snow. It seemed to engulf the whole mountain and seemed huge on a level we had never experienced. Partly because of this, we have decided to build a home in Alpine. Full moons are intoxicating!! _________________ I see my path, but I don't know where it leads. Not knowing where I'm going is what inspires me to travel it.

Hands down my Rim to River and back hike in July under the full moon with 10+ people. Resting and drinking a beer at 3am along the Colorado river under a full moon doesn't get much better than that. |

Full moon though Buckhorn Draw, checking out pictographs in the blue-white light. Awesome night. _________________ Anywhere is within walking distance if you spend the time. |

That was easily my best full moon too! What a fun trip!

best full moon for me was an early morning walk with one of my dogs in Walnut Creek; sunrise was still several several minutes away at ground level but a Jetliner, probably headed for or from SF was fully lit up by sun as it flew directly between me and full moon. Would have made an awesome photo. _________________ John Richardson and Richie Rich, El Perro de Playero

Two consectutive Octobers, observed a mtn. lion backdropped by a full moon up in a tree. The following year while night hiking another lion was was walking about 20 yards off for about a quarter of a mile with me. |

Lake Powell last February when a group of us went on the houseboat. I slept on the beach with a full moon beaming down on me.

I did a solo trip into Peter's canyon, planning an overnighter but as the sun was setting I wasn't at a good location to pitch a tent and it just didn't feel good. As I hiked out, the batteries in my headlamp ran out and I could hear something or someone shadowing me down the creek. Rocks clanked occasionally about 30-50 yards behind me. I was concerned with that and with going through the waterfall area in complete darkness. Then the full moon broke above the canyon ridge and lit up my path. I was able to get through the iffy areas and then jog on out to my car. I loved that moon, still do. _________________ It is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring. -- Carl Sagan |

Tim's full moon hike to Rim to River and back was awesome. The moonlight reflecting off the Colorado river is an unforgettable moment. _________________ You can never eat too much candy... |
