At the VOAz / REI fall work event yesterday I learned of an oppourtunity out at Picket Post to give back a bit.
This will be on the 22nd, light maintenance, bring your own lunch, may have time for a short hike after the works all done.
I know its short notice for this group that likes these things 6 month in advance, but if you find yourself open that day and want to meet new people, do something interesting and get outside. PM me and I'll give you details. Car pooling is a possibility.

Thanks,
It was a beautiful day to be out. We worked north from Pickett Post for maybe a mile or so, not a big crew but everyone had a good time and we chopped back the cat claw and other invaders, and built a few minor drain improvements. _________________ The bear went over the mountain to see what he could see. |

Wished they did not shut down Alamo Canyon, I would 4x4 around Picketpost. Lots of wildlife in the area, the first windmill on your left has quite an impressive stone corral. The one on your right had walls at least 4' high and the area is also the location of several prehistoric features as well. |

Thanks so much Shawn,
Those of us that tromp the trails owe a huge debt of gratitude to those of you who maintain those trails! We should all spend some time giving back to what we love so much. I spent a little time working on the AZ trail just below FourPeaks shortly after the Lone Fire in 1996 and learned an incredible amount about how difficult trail restoration and rehabilition actually is, and all I can say is Kudos to you and all the folks that volunteer to do that work. And that is WORK with a capital W!! Thanks again... pete |
