Nov 2008 GHOTM Superstition Ridgeline
We will plan on doing a north to south route utilizing shuttle drivers to get hikers to the Siphon Draw trailhead and then hiking to the Carney Springs trailhead.
We will leave the campground by 6:15 AM saturday to get over to the Siphon Draw trailhead by 7:00 AM. We will start the hike between 7:00 and 7:15 AM.
We will also plan to car camp Friday and Saturday nights at the regular place just east of the Don's camp on the left side of Peralta Road with a potluck dinner Saturday night.
Directions to camp -
Head east on US 60.
7.6 miles east of the junction Idaho Rd / US-60. Turn Left on to FS77 which is Peralta Road. Follow FS77 5.6 miles to a left and up turnoff. Continue about 1.7 miles, the camp will be on your left just before the Dons Camp entrance and about .3 miles before the end of the road/Peralta parking lot.
Smaller hikes can be done from either end for those of us wanting a smaller hike.
Get in here y'all!
GTG
MENU ITEMS -
Hikngrl and GTG - marinated and grilled flank steak and corn/pepper salad
paintininaz - homemade loaded baked potato soup and some sort of crusty bread or breadsticks
outside1 - batch of chili
Tom Treks - firewood and salad
ck1 - gumbo and salad tongs _________________ Good things come to those who walk. |

hmm.. i was just talking to someone last night about leading a hike across the Ridgeline. I would like to make it but alas I have plans for a Reavis North-Frog Tanks-Rough Canyon-Paradise Canyon loop. (not the paradise trail, in the eastern supes)
i'll have to do the Ridgeline before the end of this year tho. Its a good one. _________________ http://www.arizonahikers.com/board/albums/albwb18/BRIDGE.sized.jpg

I'd agree! Although, I think I'll pass on the Camacho Triple Maduro... _________________ ~Tracy

I didn't see a choice for potluck only
I've got a trip up Weaver's Needle penciled in for this particular date. Looking at just a day hike so the dinner might be very doable.
This a backup hike for me....hope that's okay. |

Will be in Tucson for Tour de Tucson. GTG you may want to check about your campground location. I don't think there is vehicle access and the area may be closed to camping. |

Though I will be boot free by then I am certain I will not be in shape for a Ridgeline hike so I am signing up for camping only. I hope to be able to get out and stretch the leg and at least do a little bit of a hike by then. No promises as I have no idea how quickly my legs will come back to me....but even if I only walk a mile I will be there! I miss hiking (and all that goes with it) so badly! _________________ ~~~Diane~~~

I am looking forward to this hike now, we will see how I feel on the 17th. I will be coming out of the Canyon after completing the Tanner, Escalante, New Hance loop that weekend with some friends from work. It will be my first time in that part of the Canyon.
Stan, we might have to rename the hike the "Puro Express". Has nice ring, doesn't it?

This will be a good weekend to be out of Phoenix. They are running the Ironman in Phoenix that weekend. (Yes, that is #2 for this year, but they've learned that April is a bad month to do the Ironman in Phx and that Nov is much better. )
Anyhow, I'll be volunteering for that race, so I cannot go on this hike. Have fun though. I cannot wait to hear the stories and see the pics. _________________ Cheers,

What are the specs on this trip?
Meeting time to start? Elevation gain, Mileage.
This sounds like a great hike, I'm interested. _________________ Those who dwell among the beauties and mysteries of the earth are never alone or weary of life. - Rachel Carson |
