Doing a Peralta Trail Hike on Sunday 11-16-03 and meeting in AJ somewhere around 8 AM. There's already a few people definitely going and everyone is welcome.
I know it's a late start but we gotta give the West Valley people a break from those 5 AM wake ups to hike the Supes, not to mention the hour drive.
If interested just drop a message here and we'll confirm meeting place by Friday.

Trish,
Would you please include me when you send the meeting info? I've done the Cave Trail before. Thanks for starting the trip at a "reasonable hour":)
Thanks,

I would be a more definate 'maybe' if I thought I could catch a ride with someone. I'm in tempe near the university, if any of you other prospectives are looking for someone to fill that gap in between you and the passenger door I urge you to consider me. |

For those considering the Cave Trail for the first time you might want to take a look at
http://www.hikearizona.com/dex2/viewtopic.php?p=8667&highlight=#8667
It describes our 2nd (successful) attempt.
I would add to that description the fact that there is more than one way down since there really isn't a 'trail" for the vast majority of the hike.
The first time we did trail we did it backwards and followed the cairns which took us to a point where we cliffed out. We turned around, consulted the map, found where the cairns led us astray and abandoned the attempt since we knew we'd run out of daylight (we started at noon). Both attempts were just two of us w/o any experienced folks to shepherd us.
BOTTOM LINE: There are plenty of cairns but if you don't have a map & compass or GPSR, or someone who knows the trail, they may take you to a dead end if you haven't done some prepartion.
Doing the Peralta to Cave is definitely easier. |

Tom, I'm uncertain I am going since I've been sick, so if Matt can hitch a ride with another person that would be best.
Matt, if you don't have someone lined up by saturday 7:00 pm, message me and I'll know if I'm going and then can pick you up.

Well, hope you can make it. Nothin better than a good sweaty hike to scare those little buggers out of the bod.
If you can't make it, maybe Mr. and Mrs. Mike can swing down to pick him up. It's pretty much on the way. If not, I'll pick him up.
I will probably be a little "crisp around the edges", so be nice to me. |

You can be a little "crisp" around the edges as long as you don't look like this dude
I sent details to all via email or PM's and if I forgot anyone just PM me. _________________ ~~~Trish~~~

The Mikes already offered to pick me up and I will be graciously accepting. Thanks again Mr. and Mrs. Mike (and thanks for volunteering them Tom).
(by the way Tom, I just stuck those discs in my backpack) |

Hey Trish, I took your advice and joined up here as well. |
OK, as for the hike on Sunday (and I'm speaking for Sheri here too), We'd love to do the whole enchilada. Hike out to the needle overlook and then back on the cave trail. Since this area is all new to us, we won't do the cave trail back unless one of you guys (Matt, Mike or Tom) are with us. We have 100% complete trust in your route finding abilities. |
PS: Don't forget our alien friend JIM, he showed an interest!!! I have complete trust in his abilities too.

Geronimo's Cave is a neat spot to check out. And a good camping spot. From the Saddle, going east, it's relatively easy to hike. But from Peralta TH, west, it get's a little complicated because there are, like hundreds of cairns! Enough to make you sick :)). There is some yellow slick rock around on the north side (see Joe Bartel's commentary), that make's you think... But fun, stuff!
Jim. |

Good Man. Can't wait to see if it's compatible with my GPS.
That's pretty cool of The Mikes to drag your Jeep-less butt to Peralta. What's up with the heep anyways? I thought you had like 3 of them? |
