Well, after reading that Matt's leaving AZ I was thinking this morning how I would miss this place. Went to work and had an e-mail stating that I have an assignment to Italy. We've actually been trying to go there for a few years and it's been the only place on my "dreamsheet", so it is a welcome move after all.
I will be leaving towards the end of May next year so I still have a good amount of time to get some hiking in here.

You too!
Well, Italy is appealing enough. Hiking on Mediterranean time will be fine. _________________ Seize from every moment its unique novelty and do not prepare your joys

I'm having abandonment issues here but that is some tough duty location! You can see a lot of world class sights there! I'm envious. _________________ The bear went over the mountain to see what he could see. |

Oh Boy you too Tim??? Gee, your Detailer came through with a nice location. Enjoy Italy, I've always wanted to get there to see it myself and get back to Germany. Maybe one day I'll go again.
We are gonna miss you around here. You better keep posting once you get there. Lots of places to see and hike I'm sure, so we'll need to hear about ALL of them. May will come sooner than you think, so looks like you'll be busy finishing up special selected hikes you have planned
I do like Ambika's 2009 GHOTM series suggestion. That sounds good to me!! _________________ Wanderingsoul (Michelle)

Wow, cool! I love Italy! People are nice there, too, if you get to know them. But the ancient towns on the tops of hills are what I really love. So what part of Italy? I have spent several months in Fiuggi Fonte, between Rome and Naples. This was probably before you were born, but anyway..... |

It's Northern Italy at Aviano Air Base, North of Florence and East of Trento. |

Tim,
Getting to know you has been a real pleasure - I hope that this assignment is all you wished for and more! Luke will always be here for ya when you exhaust all the hikes that Europe has to offer.
Congratulations to you and yours!

That's not a bad deal! Best of luck out there, and it sounds like you still have some time here to explore and play. _________________ Anywhere is within walking distance if you spend the time. |

I was born on the Army Air base in Germany. However left Europe when a few years old so can't help ya out on the things to see and do there----
It was nice to hike with you in the Gila, and I think it's great you are so active with this site leading trips etc with all us "older" hikers!!
Great thing about the Air Force, as my dad used to say, see the world sort of for free
It will be here before you know it so get your "to do" list done!! _________________ You can rest when you're dead |

I was going to say the same thing... might add a couple more words: "Via Ferrata"... this, roughly translated, means the 'iron way', a series of routes with protection in the form of cables and ladders, going to some really 'interesting' locations... _________________ The world is older and bigger than we are. Tim - Matterhorn? Now we've definitely got to get you up Cactus to Clouds before you leave. Both Matt and Tim leaving - definitely going to be a bummer without you guys around, but in your case Tim, it's hard to be bummed about where you're going. _________________ Mountains complement desert as desert complements city, as wilderness complements and completes civilization. - Ed Abbey |
