Really nice pics Matt. I do like that icicle one, Bigger than You !!! And the ice sculpting too. I forgot about seeing ice scultping being done and then the finished product when I was in MN once. Amazing what can be done huh? There were some very intricate ones there.
Ice fishing you'll have to try it. But one helpful suggestion, find someone who already has a hole drilled, or if you drill one yourself hang on to that auger tight and don't let it slip through your fingers through the ice when you break through (they can be slippery little devils)
But I do have to say it looks Cold brrr I really don't miss the extreme cold (maybe just once of the shock of Cold air hitting your face but otherwise not)

Spring is almost here. For you guys, it means the 100° temps are right around the corner, but for me, it means I can finally come out of hibernation.
I've been getting ready. I prepped my mtn bike the other day, even though it'll be a while till the trails are dry enough to ride. I've been doing hikes all around the state; mostly exploratory stuff, trying to find the good spots for backpacking and picture taking. Also, I was lucky enough to find some sweet boulders and cliffs about 15 miles from my house that are totally climbable. They are on a hunting preserve, and even though there are no rules against climbing, it probably needs to be kept on the down-low. So let me share it with you!
What a sweet find. In the middle of the woods. You have to do a bit of hiking to find this baby. I have every intention of climbing this in about 2 weeks with my brother.
Tons of bouldering just like this is in this area. Why is this a secret?
The woods here are full of strong vines that provide minutes of entertainment for immature people such as myself and my friends.
This was taken this past weekend at John Bryan State Park, OH. We were hiking along a cliff band there, checking out the climbing possibilities. We brought our gear, but it was too cold to climb. Next time.
Another place that is rapidly becoming a favorite of mine is in the northern panhandle of West Virginia. It's called Tomlinson Run State Park.
This is Tomlinson Run. The image looks hazy because it was snowing like crazy when I took it.
Hopefully spring and summer will bring lots of opportunities for cool adventures. I miss AZ and my friends there (you guys) so much. I need outdoor distractions so badly. Fortunately, I am going on a 10-day climbing trip to Alabama and North Carolina with my brother. We are leaving next Friday. I'll be sure to share the cool pics with you guys.

oh this last one looks really nice. Kinda like the beginning of winter back home. But it is getting to be spring. So nice weather is just around the corner.
Also like the swinging pic. Boys will be boys _________________ Wanderingsoul (Michelle)

A Job? wow, that's really going to cut into "things". Congrats, I'm sure it feels great to be back at work. Sounds like a job that might tap into your creative gift.....should be fun. |

Thanks guys! It'll be good to be a contributing member of society again.
Azbackpackr, I'm home from my trip. I was gone all last week. I can't believe you didn't miss me. _________________ "Your day-glo ballet days are over." Ancient chinese proverb.

Well, I didn't see a write-up or photos. Did I miss something or are you going to post something?
Anyway, maybe you will start to feel more a part of the community there since you have a job. Who knows, it might grow on you?
How old is your boss? My old boyfriend I told you about, Joe Rieker, is 65 right now, graduated in '62, I think. His dad was the marching band director there at the high school. If you meet anyone in that age group, they might remember Joe. He was valedictorian of his class. |

Geez, I haven't even been home for 24 hours yet. I needed to sleep, and go to work today. I have almost 200 photos to edit. I'll post a link to a gallery when I get it online. I'm not going to post the pics on this site since they have nothing to do with AZ or hiking. Normally I wouldn't care, but it's a lot of photos. I might write a trip report and if I do, it'll be in the blog section of my website. I will post a link. Be patient! _________________ "Your day-glo ballet days are over." Ancient chinese proverb.

Hey, that looks more like it. "It" being a great place to hike, of course! As opposed to Saddle Shoes, Ohio. |
