UPDATE:
It appears we have a good group of hardy souls willing to make the trip, so shall we plan a potluck (or not)?

Friday Supper: With everyone arriving at different times, this can be on your own.

Saturday Breakfast:???

Saturday Supper
Hotdogs and buns, pot o' beans. Shawn
Veggie munchies, hummus and dip for the evening. Ambika
Pork roast and cooked veggie side(s), beer (assumed for Sat.) Tom
Chips & beer for Saturday night, and some sort of dessert. Jeannine
Chicken burros, salad, wine? salsa. Randy
BBQ'ed Shrimp appetizer and a fruit dish Tim

Sunday Breakfast:
Pancakes Shawn
Banana bread and Almond butter Jeannine

Coffee and creamer and such for the mornings, and some paper plates, bowls and plastic eating utensils Tracy

The website says there is no water. I called to confirm and the Rec Planner for the Douglas office says the tank has deteriorated to the point that the water won't pass spec's for public drinking water. So for the want of <$10k to replace it, they shut it off (but didn't lower the fees). To put that in perspecitve, the FS spends how much on computers, travel, office space, etc. etc. etc. (Maybe I'm too close to this.) However, there is flowing water in the immediate area so take your chances or bring your own water or your filters.

Can the early birds snag the group camp site? I don't expect to get there till Friday evening.

*******************************************
Trying this again. . .

After getting rained out the first go 'round in July we'll give it another go. The main hike will be on Saturday. Meet up at Rustler's Park on top of the mountain, we'll see if interest warrants the group site or if we can just all get spots near by.

Info on this area is available at "Chiricahua Peak via Rustler Park TH, AZ" on HAZ. The long route is all the way to the Monte Vista Fire Lookout which will require an early start but no one should feel compelled, you can hike out as far as you want, it's an out and back trip, or pick your own, there are lots of trails. As a real radical option, if anyone wants to set up a shuttle (~60 miles) the day before, we could do Rustler's Park to Rucker.

Just to be safe, prepare for thunder showers in the afternoon. Cool nights, hopefully we can have a fire, hotdogs and beans, etc. There is a campground fee, so bring some cash. As it gets closer we'll see about a pot luck for Saturdy night, if so, I'll plan on a pot of beans and, of course - - pancakes.

Come one, come all, and bring some friends. Wish we could entice some of the new folks, I see several sign up but never show up.

Hey Fan! Welcome to the site! I too am looking forward to this hike. Never hiked the area before! Keep your eye on the calander and the boards, there is always some one hiking around here and they are usually looking for some one to hike with them!

We go through dry spells like any other board but once we get going this ia a pretty fun board and a great place to meet good people!

Does any one have or know some one have hiking on this coming Labor day weekend? I would like to find one I can go because I don't like to hike alone. And I also don't know if that is the right place to post this message? Please let me know.

Thanks,

fan

Shawn:
My life is truly uncertain in the summer as you know... but I may be there if not somewhere else... does the campground accomodate a 22' RV Trailer?... I need it to keep my box wine cold. I don't need hook ups, as I can bring my Honda generator to run the big screen TV, and surround sound system.

fan:

Go here and never hike alone again:
http://arizona.sierraclub.org/chap_outings.asp

They have what looks like a neat Labor Day Weekend hike:
AUG 30-31-SEPT 1 “C” Camping and hiking outing in Chaco Canyon National Monument in New Mexico Learn how and why this amazing complex was constructed by Native Americans. Contact Bev Full: bfull@cox.net Phoenix

Or go here and hike with the Sierra Club swinging singles
http://www.arizona.sierraclub.org/singles/news.html

You don't have to be a Sierra Club member, and you just pay the trip leader a couple of bucks and share gas. Very economical, safe, meet new folks, and a nice break from planning your own trips.

Sorry about the off topic reply... now... back to RV'ing in the Chiricahua's

A Hike? Heck, head up to the canyon, take the shuttle to the north rim and walk back. 22 miles, 5500 feet down, 4500 feet up. Anything less than 10 hours is good time.

Seriously, the Sierra Club is a great way to get to know a bunch of hikers, then you can team up for "off calendar" hikes with people you arrange with. I haven't looked at their events for that weekend but the do have a variety of hikes.

Rustler's can probably handle a 22 foot trailer, might be kind of tight on a few turns getting up there, maybe check with FS. Will you be bringing the dogs, to protect the generator and big screen?
