To think we all though Tommy was living it rough on the hot and dry PCT in Southern California.

umm...thanks for posting the photo Tim. Rolling Eyes

This has been a great trip so far. My journal is about a week behind, but I just made it to Big Bear City - mileage 265.

Mike, as much as I love your tarp and am happy to plug your craftsmanship, I actually decided to use my 2 pound tent for this hike. Most of us are cowboy camping every night. But I was glad to have my enclosed shelter camping in windy 8000 foot elevations the last few nights. guess I'm a bit of a wuss..

Thanks for the kinds words everyone.

I've been away Tommy so this is the first I've heard of this.
I was hugely impressed with the AT hike and I couldn't take a single minute away from it but hiking the PCT I'm just plain jealous. I think, from what I've hiked of both trails, that the AT will pale in comparison...if you will forgive an amituer for making a comparison he cannot possible make.

Good to hear from you Tommy. The hot, dry conditions should be passing behind you soon. Keep us posted as to how many shoes you go through!

I've been checking it out once or twice a week, pretty entertaining and I've been getting a kick out of most of the peoples quotes for the day. Sounds like he's having a great time.

Thanks Tim for posting. Often wondered how it was all going but sounds like he is enjoying as much as his last one. What an experience to be able to do and a Major undertaking to say the least! I'll never be able to do something such as this, so I'll enjoy those experiences through the eyes of those who do. Just amazing to me that is all I can say.

the WM Ultralight. Tommy calls it a dream. Yep.
poleless is interesting... ever since I broke the (replaceable) tip on my carbon pole, Ive gone poleless. I do agree with him that it allows more freedom. Carry on, Tommy!

I got to talked to Tommy for a bit the other night. He's having a blast and is almost finished with the JMT, it runs together with the PCT for a good stretch but he wants to see it all, so after finishing the JMT he will backtrack and pick up on the PCT where he left off.

He had some very fond words of the Sierra's and said that that section alone has been a trip of a lifetime. He summited Whitney last Tuesday, hiked up in the night to see the sunrise in the morning.

Scott and I with some other friends as well made it up there last weekend. Got to talk to "Senator" http://www.trailjournals.com/entry.cfm?id=237938

He and Tommy had hiked together for a while a few weeks ago, he had some good stories.

Well Tommy said he mailed off some more journals so check in a few days to get caught up with his last two weeks of hiking.
