Posted: 4/7/2008, 6:37 pm Post subject: Arizona Hikers Work Weekend at Hart Prairie |
|
|
We've talked of a weekend at Hart Prairie just for Arizona Hikers and friends. Neil Chapman, manager, has offered the weekend of August 15-17 just for us. This poll will be up for a week, if we get ~10 or more rather firm commitments, we'll pursue it, if not we'll release the date for someone else.
Hart Prairie is a very beautiful facility just west of Mt. Humphrey's. There are plenty of pictures in the gallery if you are unfamiliar with it. We'll have cabins (bring your own linens and towels) and a kitchen, so we'll need to appoint volunteer scullery slaves, plan a menu and collect some $$ for the food.
We can arrive Friday afternoon or evening, work starts at 8 AM Saturday, we usually stay at it till about 3:30 or so, with a short break for lunch of course, then 8-12 Sunday. We usually have run of the place till sometime later on Sunday afternoon.
Work varies but lately it's been fuels reduction, which is a nice way of saying loading pickups with tree rounds and slash and hauling it out to a clearing to be burned when it's safe. Good hard physical labor to counteract days in the cube. Lighter fare is wild plant seed collection.
So if you are interested and able to make the commitment, sign up here and we'll see if we can muster a chain gang.
PS Don't be expecting the organizational abilities of cruise director Susan, this is leadership light.

It's good to hear from you, and to know that the surgery went well. Take good care of yourself, and plan on some 'interesting' (and fun!) hikes in the future.... Hank _________________ The world is older and bigger than we are. This is a hard truth for some folks to swallow. —EDWARD ABBEY |

Sounds like everything went well and you are on the road to recovery. Glad to hear that.
Now what's this about the pain meds making you loopy and you weening off them. I say stick on them !!! we might have some interesting little quips to laugh about around the campfires _________________ Wanderingsoul (Michelle)

We went to the Dr. again this AM and all seems well. The Dr. gave Diane a boot and a pass to fly this weekend. In case you wanted to know, here's an x-ray and picture of the Dr.'s handiwork on Diane's leg.

Diane, aren't you happy to have your medical situation discussed on the web? _________________ The bear went over the mountain to see what he could see. |

Geez Diane, pretty handywork there. Almost looks like 1/2 of a ladder and I like the way the staples are all squiggly on the side in the picture. Looks like someone was doodling. But really, glad that it is all fixed and you are on the mend. Hope the pain isn't too bad. I'd stay on the meds for a while.
Cute Tim...sorry Diane couldn't help but laugh at that quick wit there.
Did they say if you will set off the alarms at the airport? I know my friend has pins in her elbow from falling on an icy driveway taking garbage out and she sets them off every time. They may think you are a terrorist !!!
Have fun at the reception and leave the dancing to the others. Todd you'll just have to dance by yourself and pretend like you are holding Diane like they do in the movies. Diane You can still bop in the chair to the music. _________________ Wanderingsoul (Michelle)

Pictures are certainly worth a 1,000 words. That's a pretty amazing looking xray. Great bones there Missy! I had no idea you had done such damage. I think I might have passed out after that. Wishing you a complete and speedy recovery.

Heal quickly!

OMG! B.O.F.!!
That's going to be one massive, humongous, nasty scar on your leg.
Did one of the dudes from the movie Hellraiser stitch that closed?
And couldn't the good doctor have used some slightly smaller screws? Good Gawd, they look like wood screws.
We could have taken care of that weeks ago.

A girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do!
Sorry about the gruesome pictures every one! The doc explained that the reason the suture line is raised is because it actually heals with less scar that way. Hard to believe but he swears by it! He also said that usually they leave the plate and screws in there but there is a good chance that they will have to remove mine as he figures my ankles "are so very skinny" that I don't have enough meat to pad it and it will probably be uncomfortable for me.
See even the doctor tells me I have CHICKEN LEGS!!!!!
Thanks Tim!!!! _________________ ~~~Diane~~~
