Posted: 4/7/2008, 6:37 pm Post subject: Arizona Hikers Work Weekend at Hart Prairie |
|
|
We've talked of a weekend at Hart Prairie just for Arizona Hikers and friends. Neil Chapman, manager, has offered the weekend of August 15-17 just for us. This poll will be up for a week, if we get ~10 or more rather firm commitments, we'll pursue it, if not we'll release the date for someone else.
Hart Prairie is a very beautiful facility just west of Mt. Humphrey's. There are plenty of pictures in the gallery if you are unfamiliar with it. We'll have cabins (bring your own linens and towels) and a kitchen, so we'll need to appoint volunteer scullery slaves, plan a menu and collect some $$ for the food.
We can arrive Friday afternoon or evening, work starts at 8 AM Saturday, we usually stay at it till about 3:30 or so, with a short break for lunch of course, then 8-12 Sunday. We usually have run of the place till sometime later on Sunday afternoon.
Work varies but lately it's been fuels reduction, which is a nice way of saying loading pickups with tree rounds and slash and hauling it out to a clearing to be burned when it's safe. Good hard physical labor to counteract days in the cube. Lighter fare is wild plant seed collection.
So if you are interested and able to make the commitment, sign up here and we'll see if we can muster a chain gang.
PS Don't be expecting the organizational abilities of cruise director Susan, this is leadership light.

Do excuse the typos, as in my weakened state (are ya feeling sorry for me yet?) I have been using a lap top from the couch with my poor fractured leg elevated (how about now?) and the "N", "K" and the "H" keys are all malfunctioning. I try to catch the typos but don't always....

Wow, I missed that first "N key problem" the first time around! (Wink wink, nudge nudge, know what I mean?)

That's Ok Diane, We know your "ILL" at the moment and I only caught one of the "N's" and nothing else. Guess my brain fills in the missing letters. But I think you shouldn't play Wheel of Fortune right now, might not be a good thing for you ...
Hey wait a minute, you mean the "R" key works???
Sorry couldn't help myself there

OK, I am told I have a spiral oblique fx of the distal fibula!!!! Yay MEEEE! I never have been one to mess around and do things only half way!.... the girl who took the x ray was not allowed to tell me anything as the doc had to read the x ray and diagnos but her one comment was.... What DID you DO? I knew right then I was in trouble! So I am out of the Wade but I will be there to welcome you all back to camp!!!! With my foot up per the doctors orders.....
Get my cast Thursday after giving the foot/leg the chance to swell and unswell..... Off work for an undetermined amount of time at this point... so if anyone gets bored come on over and keep me company I am couch/bed bound at least until I get my cast... then the doc lets me know what my restrictions will be from there. |
Anyone hear how Diane is doing today? I know she was having her surgery today.

I'm sure once things are settled someone will let us know. I have good feelings that it went well. She'll be back before you know it. _________________ Wanderingsoul (Michelle)

Surgury went splendidly! They gave me a general so the anestetist told me to pick my happy place (that was easy!) and pushed the meds into the IV and less than two secods later I said "Woah! That works fast!" and I was out! I woke up at the completion of the surgery and wiggled my toes like a good little pt and they gave me a few pushes of good drugs through the IV to get my pain level down to a 3 and wisked me off to recovery. I am told I didn't do anything "entertaining" in recovery much to my relief! I was warned multiple times that ortho surgery is quite painful so I have been taking my pain pills on a regular basis and probably will continue at least through today before I start weening back and trying to do it on Ibuprofen. I have a f/u appt scheduled for tomorrow with my surgeon to decide if I can fly out to K.C. this weekend for my son's wedding reception then am suposed to f/u weekly for the next four to six weeks then after that bi-weekly until he releases me to real life again... I pray I heal quickly and can be out on the trail ASAP! I thank you all for all the well wishes! Don't forget me! I will be back!!!! Sorry for any miss spells or typos.... vicodin tends to make me a bit loopy and this lap top doesn't have a good spell check on it!!!! _________________ ~~~Diane~~~
