Only 3 feet to long for my living room. I want a kayak bad. _________________ "Surely all God's people, however serious or savage, great or small, like to play. I'd like one too, but I've never been able to get my legs shoehorned into one... Do they make kayaks for long legged people? _________________ The world is older and bigger than we are. This is a hard truth for some folks to swallow. —EDWARD ABBEY |

OK, please enlighten me. I know there are a gazillion kinds of kayaks out there right now, (just like bikes and skis!) So, I know a touring kayak is not supposed to be for whitewater, right? More for flat water? But how does it differ from a sea kayak? A sea kayak also has a rudder. Could this be used for both lakes and sea? Also, does it seat two people? I see that black cover over the second hole. Is that a seat or storage?
Also, in a recent conversation with a paddle club person, I heard that touring kayaks can be used on the Lower Colorado (no real rapids.) You should do the Lower Colorado BEFORE you sell it, if you haven't already! Start at Blythe and drive on down to Imperial Dam/Martinez Lake, above Yuma. Over 120 miles! BLM-Yuma has info. Several places to camp for boaters, including Picacho State Park on the California side--has boater campsites. Gorgeous along there, Imperial National Wildlife Refuge, Chocolate Mountains, etc.
I would love to buy this thing, I even have the moola right now, but I think I will have to pass. The info would be helpful, though. |

I'll trade you straight across for the Packraft. this 'yak should fit a tall guy. fully adjustable seat and rudder pedals. |
Thanks, I appreciate the offer, but as Diane mentioned, I already have plans for the Packraft...
I've tried a number of kayaks, but just fitting my size 14EE feet into the footwell seems to be a major challenge... _________________ The world is older and bigger than we are. This is a hard truth for some folks to swallow. —EDWARD ABBEY |

I think a touring kayak is more all purpose and has storage? Sea kayak is long and wide for big open water.
I did that lower colorado trip in a canoe. What a fantastic and peaceful few days. While a kayak is more fun to cruise around in, I think canoe is the way to go on that trip. Room for a big cooler! _________________

whitewater kayak=dirt bike
recreational kayak=enduro
touring kayak=Road King
sea kayaks sit way, way back to avoid crushing waves. they let you float right over waves.
you can also "surf" in the ocean on a whitewater boat.
an "all purpose" kayak doesnt really exist. thats like an all purpose handgun, restaurant, shoe, you get the point. Rec kayaks really are only good for renting to tourists. _________________ http://www.arizonahikers.com/board/albums/albwb18/BRIDGE.sized.jpg

Guess I'm a tourist! I like my rec kayak (Old Town Loon 111). Roomy, comfy, good for a class 2 rapid or a day on the lake. Probably wouldn't take it in the ocean, class 3 rapids, or out for more then a day or two though.
If you want to do a little of everything and not have 3-4 kayaks it does the job. _________________

I'm interested in a very long touring keyak. 16 feet I expect. My goals are to tour the shoreline of this lake and the one above it. _________________ "Surely all God's people, however serious or savage, great or small, like to play.
