Howdy ladies and gents---I'm looking to do some backpacking trips in CO (as I live here now)--preferably in remote areas, off trail with good scenery--possibly canyons. Does anybody have experience bushwhacking in CO and can give me a good reference as where to start looking into?
If you folks ever want to make a trip up here for backpacking, rock-climbing, flyfishing, elk or duck hunting, skiing or whatever else---you are more than welcome to stay with my family and I in Colorado Springs. I imagine we will only be here for a couple of years until my wife gets her RN degree and I am thinking about getting a more applicable degree for me in Geography and Natural Sciences. So please stop by any time---I will even make Woo-Woo's for you. Take care and peace in the middle east. _________________ "Much is not dared because it seems hard, much seems hard because it is not dared" |

My brother lives near Denver, in Estes Park. I plan to do some hikes there this summer. You will have to pass on some places to go to me! _________________ Anne

A few summers ago I went to the Missouri Lakes in the Mount of the Holy Cross Wilderness, that was a sweet place. Pics are in the gallery here somewhere... _________________ But let the mind beware, that though the flesh be bugged, the circumstances of existence are pretty glorious

Hey Tim---Speaking of ........ I managed to get my first trip of the year to the slopes in today at Sunrise.
The weather was picture perfect and the snow was soft and powdery. I spent the day on Cyclone to avoid the crowds that could have been record breaking in number. It's got me think about skiing some more. Sending you a PM. |

If you want remoteness, check out the Gore Range up by Vail and Silverthorn. I dont really know about bushwacking, but there are some very remote areas there.
Or, a little closer to AZ, there are many nice areas in the San Juans and the South San Juans. _________________ Mountains are there to be climbed!

I know it's far from the Springs, but check out the canyon country around Grand Junction. There's some spectacular Colorado Plateau canyons and scenery there. Grand Mesa, though higher up, has lots of room to get lost.
Closer to home, the Sangre de Cristo range from Salida south to the NM line has plenty of high, isolated valleys, lakes, and peaks. Up north, the Rawah and Zirkel wildernesses offer some great bushwhacking and I promise you won't run into anyone. Stay in the Front Range or anywhere near a 14er, though, and crowds appear. |

Yeah I'm not into the 14er thing so much, tried that once and you are definetely right about the crowds--it disgusted me.

Well now, my dear lady, a Woo-Woo is a delightfully fruity cocktail reserved for the most astute and distinguished of its partakers.
Hey Canyondweller, I see you are in Denver, let me know if you ever are looking for a partner on any wilderness adventures. _________________ "Much is not dared because it seems hard, much seems hard because it is not dared" |

A woo-woo is peach schnapps, vodka and cranberry juice. Pretty simple and tasty. _________________ "Much is not dared because it seems hard, much seems hard because it is not dared" |
