Thumbs down to REI. Not worth waking up early for on a Sunday morning.
They put a minimum bid on all the boats and in most cases the minimum bid was more then the market value for the boat. One of the boats they had the minimum bid higher then the current price for a new one (and a newer model) at Popular! This event was not intended as service to their customers. _________________

I was surprised at the minimum bids as well.
I agree that the prices were a bit high, especially for the swifty perception, but a few of those boats were like new, only water damaged from the fire.
The canoes were a steal at the minimum bid, especially the kevlar one with the small tear...a $200 fix, plus the minimum bid of $150 gets you a boat for $350 that retails for $2000 plus.
I know George walked away with a tandum by perception.
Those boats not sold during the auction are part of a 1/2 price auction tomorrow...so I'm looking at a beginning bid of $75 for a canoe...I don't think that's too bad... _________________ -Colin

The two tandums had pretty good starting bids. That Perception keowie2 is a great kayak. We have one on our club. You can push both seats all the way forward and solo it very easily (we paid $300 for ours).
The canoes were priced good too, but there is such a small canoe market here it's not hard to find a used one cheap.
What time is the auction part 2 tomorrow and do you know what didn't sell today? _________________

It's all day, but it's phone in, you call in your bid on the boats that didn't sell. _________________ -Colin

I got the Keowee II for $275. We also picked up a couple of canoe paddles and two life vests for 10 bucks each. I'll look around for some proper kayak paddles but this will work for now. I had rented this boat last spring and took it to Knoll Lake. It handles great and it's light enough that I can take it solo. |
