Sad, but great read, Daryl. As you know, in your line of work, continued CPR is critical for many lightning strike victims.

Doc Forgey's book "Wilderness Medicine" is remarkably candid on CPR, stating that without defribrillation within 15 minutes, most major cardiac events which result in no pulse are DOA. He suggests that CPR in such cases where field defibrillation is impossible is primarily psychotherapy to comfort the survivors that they did all they could.

In cases of lightning strike, however, he encourages rescuers to continue as long as any member of the party has strength to carry on. He recites a story about a couple in Glacier Park and were resuscitated after a very prolonged rescue with uninterrupted CPR. I guess the brain can reset its ccircuit breaker, so to speak, after a lengthy shock, but if not oxygenated during the interim, there's noting left.

I spent the most terrifying night of my life above tree line in Colorado during an electrical storm. If escape is possible, it's best to beat feet.

I got hooked reading this and couldn't stop. It'll take you about 20 minutes to read all 3 sections but it's a great read. There are several heros in this story. THis could be made into an amazing movie.

To summerize, a group of 13 people go on a climbing adventure in the tetons. a lightening bolt hits several of them and knocks them off the face they were climbing. People within the group and the Rangers pull together and make an amazing rescue.

PS you can get to section 2 and 3 from the first page.
