Okay we need good suggestions for a local destination to have a car camp/hike/shindig in January to celebrate our 5th Anniversary. We need a date as well.
White Tanks? Superstitions? McDowells? Cave Creek? Eagle Tails? Phoenix Mountain Preserves? South Mountain?
Any good suggestions would be welcome.

Lake Pleasant sounds good!
We could do our own version of the Polar Bear swim!

Not much in the way of good hiking there though. Don't we want to hike too? _________________ ~Tracy

YOu could have a little bit of a leg stretcher with Pipeline trail. Or we could do a hike nearby ... _________________ Photos: http://www.pbase.com/desertgirl/galleries

you mean IF the water levels are high enough to have to use the floating bridge? I think we're gonna need a lot more rain! _________________ ~Tracy

YOu do not need the floating bridge --- You can walk along the shore or something ...or even across the lake ! |
I know...I was just kidding about the bridge, thought maybe that's where the "leg stretching" was coming in, since the trail is only 2 miles long.
Wasn't Spring Valley the hike we were attempting during the flooded out GHOTM in 2005 when we were chased away from the Castle Hot Springs area by the gatekeeper with the shotgun, then nearly got electrocuted by the fallen power lines before the APS guy saved our lives...Tom, you still got that map of Hank's in your truck?...or maybe I'm thinking of a different area. _________________ ~Tracy

It was Crater Canyon!---but the other details are so hysterically accurate......ah, the memories brought back by that day. And didn't Rich drive out to watch us hike in the rain? |

Yes he did! And he made Hooli get out of the truck in the rain to report our play by play actions! (Faatha, what on earth are the peasants doing now?...this best not delay my dinner!) _________________ ~Tracy

Lake Pleasant sounds like a great location to me.
I love lounging at that marina/restaurant after a day of boating. Seems like I heard this is the most expensive wet boat storage in the country. I haven't actually attempted to verify that info. They also have a nice little store. So we would have camping, fishing, boating/rafting (if hank brings his) dining and SHOPPING all in one sweet location. |
