My son, a strapping young Staff Sergeant in the USMC will be attending college starting next year and upon graduation will be comissioned an officer in the USMC.
In the past he had made it quite clear he was not into hiking/backpacking having called our hikes, when he was young, "death marches". Naturally, he is into fast cars, motorcycles, working out, and in general having a good time with friends.
Well, he surprised me last Friday. He is with his girlfriend visiting her parents in Colorado Springs and he seen Pikes Peak for the first time. Now he wants us to backpack in the region prior to him starting college!
I think my 50th birthday is planned.
And,,,,,I wonder if this has anything to do with his girlfriend?

Maybe because Pikes Peak has better scenery than a gym...
Sounds like he has a great future ahead of him!

 I plan on pulling out my uniform and saluting the lad when he pins on his butter bars.
I'm more concerned about him kicking my behind going up Pikes Peak.
