How about an overnighter or a day hike in the Grand canyon ?
Time frame - Late April / Early May
1 st choice: Grandview Mesa overnighter
2 nd choice: Indian Gardens overnight (Plateau point for sunset)
(Group permits are limited to 11)
3 nd choice: Day hike down S Kaibab across Tonto and up Bright Angel ( No limit of folks)
We have other choices in the Lees Ferry area as well ...
Spencers Trail, Catherdral Wash, Soap Creek....
If you are interested mark the poll & post who you are ....
so if there is enough interest we can see what we can do. _________________ Photos: http://www.pbase.com/desertgirl/galleries

You know I am in! Marked a two nighter but would be open to a one nighter as well..... Also, My birthday will be right in the middle there so I will most likely be planning a trip up there in that time frame anyway per my newly developing tradition! _________________ ~~~Diane~~~

Indian Gardens has been on my list since my first time through that area and my camera battery was dead. I'd like a little time to lounge and piddle around that area.
I haven't voted in the poll. |

I really like the Grandview idea, drive up Friday night and car camp. Hike down Saturday morning. Explore the caves and mineing stuff. Hike out Sunday.
Now I've yet to actually go down the Miners Spring route or the central route off the Mesa, so maybe I need to add those 2 things and do a little loop in the process.
We can put in for the permit on January 1st right? |

I'm with Diane. I put 2 night, but 1 will work if that's the consensus. |

Hmmm, go for a hike in the Grand Canyon????
OK!
Oh yea, two nights is fine with me too...
Indian Garden would be fun, it has been many years since I've camped there, and Plateau point would be a nice sunset spot. There are some other interesting day hikes that could be done from there too... The 'Old Bright Angel', maybe even circumambulating Plateau Point, over to Horn Creek and back, etc.... _________________ The world is older and bigger than we are. I'd like to do two nights, but I'll settle for one. Any route works with me.
I am doing a one night in January, so two nights is preferable. To me, one night seems like an appetizer. _________________ You can never eat too much candy... |

I voted for two nights, but could also do one.
I like the Indian Gardens (or more accurately, the Plateau Point for sunset) idea, I've only passed through there once on a return R2R trip, and had very little time for lounging.
But any of the other options sound good too! _________________ ~Tracy

How does the weekend of April 18-20 sound ? I will be up at the canyon Dec 6/7 so I can seek permits.
I want to a canyon hike where I am NOT schelping (sp?) water so ....
My 1st choice will be 2 nights at Indian Gardens. This allows for much lattitude in what we can do ...
1) We can hike BA down
2) We can hike Kaibab down and hike across Tonto to get to Indian Gardens
3) We can lounge at Indian Gardens, Plateau point for sunset or sunrise, hike to the ranch and get the Ranch T shirt fix and a cold beer!
4) Hike West on Tonto.
If I cannot get Indian Gardens the I will look for permits for areas west on Tonto.
If nothing works out on Indian Garderns then I will do Grandview.
1st night Cottonwood 2nd night Hance Creek....unless we want to climb up the middle route and explore teh caves -- then I think I will get the mesa.
Now here's the commitment question Do I try for group permit ( upto 11) or individual one for (6) _________________ Photos: http://www.pbase.com/desertgirl/galleries

If an easy hike is in order, perhaps down to BA campground at the river the first night, then up to indian gardens the second? (You could go down the SK and up the BA to avoid the same trail twice) _________________ But let the mind beware, that though the flesh be bugged, the circumstances of existence are pretty glorious

What if I "Schlep" a gallon of water for you, can we skip I.G. for a place like Grandview or Yuma? |

I'd be game for part of that "schlep". I wouldn't mind seeing Yuma Pt again. |
