The Arizona Trail Needs You
REI is seeking volunteers to help rebuild a section of the Arizona Trail in the Four Peaks region, west of Roosevelt Lake, on November 15 & 16, 2003.
Volunteers are needed to clear brush, remove debris, cut new trail, and install trail signage, set up campsites and cook food. This work will help repair the Arizona Trail - a 790 mile long trail that will stretch from the US/Mexican border at the Coronado National Memorial to the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument on the Utah border.
Trail work will begin at 8:30am and finish by 3:30pm on Saturday and start once again at 8:00am and finish by 12:30pm on Sunday. Dinner, campsites, entertainment, and gear raffles will be provided Saturday night.
Interested people may sign up for the project at customer service desk at the Paradise Valley or Tempe REI locations. Participants are asked to bring a lunch, work clothes, gloves and sturdy boots. A letter with more details will be sent to volunteers who have signed up two weeks prior to the project. Stewards from the Arizona Trail Association and the Volunteers of Outdoor Arizona will provide equipment, training and direction for the volunteers. _________________ -Colin
