My brother and I used to sit around and "cast" it, over a few brews.
Walter Mathou would be the best Doc.
I always thought a young Michael Pollard was the right "visual" for Heyduke. McConaughey will take time.
Bonnie . . . Oh now that's a tough one. I have a mental image of the actress but can't put the name to it. _________________ The bear went over the mountain to see what he could see. |

Watched a movie with John Goodman, Richard Dreyfuss and Holly Hunter today titled Always. It was very good (so was the original). Like the cast for the proposed movie, wonder who will be the cop and hope Hayduke drives a jeep. |

They definitely got the big names for this one. Nicholson could be good as Doc _________________ Mountains complement desert as desert complements city, as wilderness complements and completes civilization. - Ed Abbey |

Funny you should mention this movie, Always. My boss's husband was just telling me all about it yesterday. He was directing the aviation efforts for the Yellowstone fire (he's a retired Forest Service muckety-muck) and was sitting in a bar nearby, when he overheard Spielberg's crew talking about how they were going to fly over the fire in an airplane to get some film footage, but they were going to have to do it on the sly because that airspace was closed. He turned to them and told them that wouldn't be such a good idea, why didn't they just go out to the airport tomorrow and meet him there, and he would help them set something up? He said he was disappointed in the final movie because it really didn't cover anything of interest to him, what firefighters really do or what they go through. He said they were able to give the film crew a place to go get some really great footage, though. I haven't seen the movie. He said it was a remake of an old Katherine Hepburn/Spencer Tracy movie, and that Hepburn had a cameo role in the newer version.
So, I clicked on the link for the Monkeywrench Gang and saw the list of actors. But it doesn't say who is playing whom. Is Jack going to be Doc? I hardly ever watch movies or TV or pay attention to actors' names, so a couple of them are not known to me. I can't picture who John Goodman is going to play? He's that guy on Roseanne, right? Who is going to be Seldom Seen Smith? Dreyfuss?
I'll have to get me one of those old "Hayduke Lives" bumperstickers. |

I can see either Nicholson or Goodman as Bishop Love. I think McConaughey would make a better Seldom Seen than Richard Dreyfuss. Dreyfuss is shorter and looks gruffer than McConaughey. This is exciting, I hope it actually makes it beyond the Web...I've heard rumors of it for years, and I hear that the book was originally optioned when it first came out, and came to nothing. Now I've got my hopes up! _________________ Anywhere is within walking distance if you spend the time. |
