I wouldn't look at that thing in the stores. You would never be able to wear the thing outside of a holloween costume. I can't imagine it would breath at all and when you can have a small tent for a pound more why not. Twice the weather of a tarp as well. I couldn't sleep in this thing, much less a glorified poncho.

Tim, that is why the fine folks at places like MLD have really cool bivys that are designed to give you freedom, not claustrophobia. Some of these designs are made for under-tarp sleeping as well. If only I were RICH! _________________ http://www.arizonahikers.com/board/albums/albwb18/BRIDGE.sized.jpg

Tim here's a less expensive bug bivy and I've found it to be quite good.

Im going to agree with Stan, that MLD stuff is WAY pricey. Get the OR or even REI's bug bivy.
For anyone else looking for a very light way to keep bug free AND protect yourself and gear from the elements I have a gray sil-nylon tarptent that I made. If you look in the gallery you will see a blue one, but this one is of much nicer quality as I took my time sewing it. Im getting fairly good at this sewing thing, the gray tarp is 9 feet long with a living space of 7 feet by about 4 feet at the widest. It will weigh under 1 pound. $165
theres also an orange solo tarp still available for $55 _________________ http://www.arizonahikers.com/board/albums/albwb18/BRIDGE.sized.jpg

Yeah it is some $$$. Although Davis has been know to purchase two BlackDiamond tents so far. I would not think it would be out of his range.

To my defense the lighthouse was $164 at the garage sale, the bivy was bought with a 20 or 30% off coupon, used once then taken back. |

All is good Davis, I was just giving you some crap. Heck, I shelled out $300+ last winter on a new bag. _________________ Good people... drink good beer.

I hear that. Quality gear is worth it's money though. Just wish I would have bought all that stuff the first time, not the 2nd 3rd and 4th sets. At least I can outfit a small army if need be. |

I still have some of my 1st and 2nd gen gear around. It is always good to have some extras to recruit new people to our world. If they like the stuff, I try to sell it to them too. _________________ Good people... drink good beer.
