Before I go hiking I like to check out either google earth or some site similar to see if there is some good resolution on the terrian I will be hiking in. A lot of times the remote places are in bad resolution and this does me no good. Besides google earth are there any other mapping sites that you know of that others may not know.
I recently showed someone maps.live.com and they have great resolutions when you click the city view.

Holy crap. That's pretty cool.
I'll have to see what they have.
I don't think anything can touch that. |

Terra server has good aerial photos but not quite the resolution of the peralta trailhead photo
http://terraserver.microsoft.com/
You can download digitial orthophotographs from the arizona regional image archive but you need to know which USGS 7.5 minute quad in which you are interested. These orthophotos are meant for manipulation in a GIS program.

I think the photos of peralta trailhead were add ins. I don't think satalites take pictures of the earth at 45* angles. I really liked them though. _________________ "Surely all God's people, however serious or savage, great or small, like to play. That’s funny…you can switch directions were the zoom is and view a different perspective from the N, S, E, or W. When you do that, you’re obviously looking at a photo taken at a slightly different time and angle. _________________ Tomorrow is the most important thing in life. I really like that switch view option. I work for an engineering firm and we use this website to get aerial views of our future projects for our proposals.

That is some site, think I have to learn to work it a bit though. I looked up a few places but didn't get quite the same look as the Peralta, but man that was something. Really good views and you can move the mouse to make it go quite a ways. Pretty impressive. _________________ Wanderingsoul (Michelle)
