The mosquitoes are populating here in Michigan. I have tried many remedies and bug repentants. I just read a new one...licorice. Studies show that eating it keeps the itching down.
So what do you use to keep the bugs away and to ease the itch when they bite?

I have never had bite issues in the desert. That's part of why I live here. _________________ "Surely all God's people, however serious or savage, great or small, like to play. I guess I must be a pretty sour individual, because they don't bite me too much! I do use Cutter's or anything like that with 100% DEET in it when I'm in really buggy places. If I do get bitten I put peroxide or rubbing alcohol on the bites to ease the itching. I have also used a couple of over-the-counter itching remedies, not calamine, but this clear stuff in a tube, and another one that's a lotion. They worked ok, too, for the itching.
Also, taking benedryl helps some people, especially at night because it also makes most people sleepy.
Did you know that malaria was once common along the creeks in Arizona? It is a mosquito-borne illness. We have lots of mosquitos up here in the White Mtns., especially during monsoon. But I remember there were a lot in Tucson too, in August. |

I found the tube. It's called Rhuli. My son took it to Boundary Waters, the mosquito capital of the world.
I think the other stuff was called Serna. |

Eating fresh garlic the night before you go out. I hear that mosquitos don't like garlic.
I also read something at the post office that Bounce sheets keeps the bees and mosquitos away. I think it was Bounce anyway. _________________ Mountains are there to be climbed!

There is not a single mosquito up on Charleston. I've never been able to comprehend that. _________________ "Surely all God's people, however serious or savage, great or small, like to play. They're all down in the valley feeding on sangre, tourista, prima.
Wouldn't you be? After all, isn't Vegas all about the free drinks?

I literally grew up with a swamp in my backyard (Louisiana) so I know all about mosquitoes. I've heard you should stay away from sweets. |

I use melaleuca (tea tree oil) and eucalyptus oil mixed with some witch hazel. It keeps the mosquitos away.

Come to think of it, I think I did see one at the bottom of a Long Island Ice Tea once. _________________ "Surely all God's people, however serious or savage, great or small, like to play. Here's a bug repellant skin patch that I recently heard about:

Anybody know if this works? I'm skeptical. |
Backpacker just recently ran a series of tests and found it fairly ineffective at times.
