When you’re out and about this Saturday evening, don’t forget to look up. Saturday, March 3rd, the moon will pass through the shadow of the earth…a lunar eclipse! The best way to view the lunar eclipse is to find a clear location, free from hills and buildings, and look off to the east. The moonrise tomorrow will be at 6:28pm, and as the moon rises, it will turn a beautiful color of glowing, red. You don’t want to miss this sight!

Perfect! That's exactly what I need to know---having a few friends over this evening. You are just a wealth of information!
I'll have the telescope up and will be trying to figure it out. There will be plenty of food---plus the chocolate fountain will be up and running...if any of you are in the area come on over!
If you need directions send me a PM. |

Too many clouds here in Michigan, but I did take a night walk to try to see something. Plus I'm way too close to the city... did have a little hope...but no luck.

Unfortunately for us in the SW, the totality portion of this eclipse was over before local moonrise. Greatest eclipse was at 23:20:56 UT or just about 21 minutes past 4 this afternoon.
We'll have a much better opportunity, if the summer monsoon storms don't interfere, on August 28. This will be another total lunar eclipse. The major phases are listed below (in local time):
Penumbral Eclipse Begins: 00:53:39
Partial Eclipse Begins: 01:51:16
Total Eclipse Begins: 02:52:22
Greatest Eclipse: 03:37:22
Total Eclipse Ends: 04:22:24
Partial Eclipse Ends: 05:23:30
Penumbral Eclipse Ends: 06:21:01
We'll be able to see everything until the moon sets at 06:10.

Oh, dang mountain! Who put that there?! Well we ate food, drink cocktails, filled the chocolate fountain 2 times and had fun anyway.....seems like I should plan another try for the next one on august 28th. |

If you do, note the times. The eclipse doesn't start 'til nearly 1 am, with greatest eclipse at 3:37 am... you'll likely have to have lots of caffeine in that chocolate fountain. |

Ahhh, that's when most of my friends are sleeping plus it's in the middle of the week when slumber parties are frowned on. Guess I'll have to find a different reason for a party.
Guru did get the telescope zero'd in on the moon...which takes some practice........even saw some craters! |

Cool... the moon is a worthy telescopic target.
A lunar eclipse doesn't require anything but the standard peepers to view - maybe binoculars. |
