I heard on the news tonight that the worlds largest saguaro was struck by lightning and was destroyed..

It was 200 years old and over 40 feet tall, lived in Tucson

What are the odds... Too bad.

Don't think it was the world's biggest, but it was a biggy.

Yeah, and the state spent like $40,000 to relocate it a couple years ago for some freeway expansion or something. If they had left it where it belonged, it would probably still be standing - very sad.

Guess that's life and progress too. What's that song? %Take paradise and put up a parking lot%... %Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you got til it's gone%... (not the exact words, but close enough)

I have to share this one with you too. I lived in NW Indiana by the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. Around 1980 (or so) they wanted to build a nuclear power plant on what was the old Bailey power plant area. This was right in the sand dunes along Lake Michigan. Of course many protested and petitioned (thank goodness!) and it didn't happen. BUT had it, about 10 years ago, the same Bailey site is now a SINK HOLE! Can you imagine!!! A nuclear power plant on the largest fresh water lake that would be sinking? *shiver*

Nothing makes sense at times, it's people like all of you that care and take stances. People who care. (no no no I won't break out into the song, %people, people who need people%) Laughing

Yes, I've been to Reddamacks, great hamburgers. From there, we'd head out to the lake and watch the boats come in and out. Been to Hannah's? Nice restaurant, lodge atmosphere.

Been to Lighthouse Mall, outlet shops? Michigan City has turned around and is doing better the past few years despite the economic problems with Bethlehem Steel bankruptcy, Midwest Steel bankruptcy (division of National Steel) and other smaller steel companies bankrupt in the area such as LTV.

Bailey was on the lake owned by NIPSCO, no longer running so they thought that would be a great site for a nuclear power plant! DUH!

We lived in Portage, IN, if that gives you an idea. We'd take RT 20 to Michigan City then further to Michigan.

Small world ey?? How long have you been in AZ?

I've been in AZ since June 2000...but we still get back to Michigan City about once a year, we have a house there, on Lake Shore Drive, about bus stop 31.

Great memories
