If you want to cut your climb to the Peak you can instead start your trek at the signed spur trail which lies between the lodge and the Agassiz chairlift.

Instead of parking in the lower lot at the main trailhead, follow the signs up the mtn to the Scenic Skyride parking lot.

This spur trail cuts about 1/2 mile and 500+ ft of climbing from the hike (one-way) and allows you to visit the lodge. Lodge claims to cater to your hunger and thirst and is suppose to be open daily from 10am-4pm until Labor Day and Fri/Sat/Sun from Labor Day till mid-Oct.

Just be sure to be back at your car b/4 6pm when they say they lock the gates to the upper lots.

Or you can park in the main parking lot, and hike up by the ski lifts to the trail. This is what i always do. It's a prettier hike anyway hiking through the nice green grass.

excellent point.... that's the spur I took since it less traveled but it's a steep 1/2 mile.
