Access to the mountaintop community of Crown King has been restricted as crews battle two wildfires.

The Tiger Rock Complex Fire has grown to 6,600 acres. Two separate fires being battled together, the Tiger Fire and the Rock Hill FIre. There are 300 firefighters assigned to the blazes, including six Type 1 crews. Two air tankers and three helicopters fighting the flames from the air.

Low humidity and a lack of cloud cover could lead to extreme fire behavior today. On Friday, the fire spread at what crews consider a high to moderate rate through grass and brush with flames reaching 30 feet into the air.

Sheriff’s deputies have established a roadblock on Forest Road 259. That is the only road available to both fire crews and local residents. Only residents with proper identification will be allowed access to the area.

A Type 1 incident management team took command of the fire this morning. They established a command post at Mayer High School.

Elsewhere in the state, the Warm Fire is now 50 percent contained. It covers 58,630 acres of the Kaibab National Forest north of Grand Canyon National Park.

The North Rim of the park and state route 67 are expected to re-open to the public Monday morning.

Crews are still cleaning up the Brins Fire area near Sedona. Most of the Coconino National Forest will re-open tomorrow morning. Oak Creek Canyon and other parts of the forest’s Red Rock Ranger District will remain closed.

Firefighters in the Prescott National Forest attacked and contained nine small, lightning-caused fires Friday night into Saturday morning.

Saw that fire on the way up to Prescott this morning! By this after noon it had grown considerably! No flames visable from the road just smoke....not much visable action around the area....
