(June 8, 3:45 p.m.) The Potato Complex Fire is burning 10 miles northwest of Heber-Overgaard. The fire was sparked by lightning, and has burned 2,000 acres and is 10% contained.

The fire started on June 6, 2006 at 1:30 p.m. It's burning in Ponderosa Pine, Pinyon Pine, Juniper and grass.

Today fire activity is minimal with no visual smoke. Crews will continue to mop up and improve fire lines.

The fire received approximately ¼ inch of rain late yesterday afternoon and during the night. Thunderstorms are expected again today. Most of the fire activity is in the southwest corner of the fire. There is concern for wildlife and cultural resources.

There are 150 personnel committed to this fire. There are 4 engines, 4 dozers, 4 water trucks, 1 helicopter and 5 hotshot crews.

The incident command center is located 7 miles at the junction of Forest Roads 504 and 99.

Closures: Beginning at the intersection of Forest Road 504 and Forest Road 99, thence northerly direction along Forest Road 504 to its intersection with Forest Road 170, thence in a southerly direction along Forest Road 170 to its intersection with Forest Road 99, thence in a northeasterly direction along Forest Road 99 to its intersection with Forest Road 504.

The areas within the above road system are closed to public entry. Forest Roads 504, 99 and 170 will remain open to public travel. Residents are asked to stay out of the area due to high fire traffic.

Topic of conversation everywhere in the White Mtns. today was the Potato Complex fire, which has picked up again. They even sent some folks from the local Eagar Fire Dept. They tell me it's near Wildcat Canyon.
