Located at the base of the peak formerly known as Squaw, is my new play-ground. Its on the way home from work, I usually stop for a hike. It offers some pretty challanging trails.
Question: Whats the story with the open mine shafts? There are at least 2 that Ive seen, Wide open, goes back into darkness.
Im too chicken, Err I mean too tall to go inside and explore.
You can identify a bunch of others that have been filled.
Can anyone offer any info about the mines? |

I'm chicken as well. I went to a mountain rescue presentation where they described their mine rescue stuff, and this veteran rescuer talked about how mines still creep him out because he knows eventually, the mountain will close the mine, cause it's not natural.
I'd be curious what the "rules" about mines are as well...there are a ton of them out near the Hawes Road mtn bike area. _________________ -Colin

Im not really worried about cave-ins, but more like rattlers and other critters wanting to see if I taste like chicken..
