I bought a package of Valley Fresh Premium Chunk White Chicken from Target last week . On a hike today I made lunch and its pretty good. I placed it on a hoagie roll along with some mustard and mayo (used those little packets) and should of remembered to bring some veggies. |

What size is the package... any thing over 3 oz is way to much for me and I would have to carry the rest out and after a few hours it would spoil so I couldn't use it later for a future meal or anything... _________________ ~~~Diane~~~

A large 7 oz package and it was a bit much for a lunch. I think it would go well with a Lipton's Side dish to make a meal for two people. |

Brats can always co-pack! Then it'd be only 3.5 oz! _________________ Photos: http://www.pbase.com/desertgirl/galleries

I've looked at those too, but have to agree, 7 oz is too much. Adding it to, and splitting a Lipton cooks in X minutes might work. _________________ The bear went over the mountain to see what he could see. |

I bought some AlpineAire Foods http://www.aa-foods.com/itemDetail.cfm?prodID=11106 Freeze-Dried chicken on line. One package weighs one ounce and has two servings. It does not taste as good as the vacuum packed chicken. However, its not bad and I add a chicken boullion cube with it. I use the whole package for one serving.
If you are into dehydrated or freeze dried foods to cut down on the weight you carry this is one consideration. If you eat the contents of one envelope that will give you 26 grams of protein, which is nice to have at the end of the day.
You really only want to use this if you are taking time to dehydrate food in camp. I generally get my meal into water when I first get to camp and then start setting up the tent and monkey around with whatever else I'm doing. |

Also, check out the last item - Smoked Chorizo (no refrigeration req'd)... yumm - now we're talkin'
edit: aaaak - I just checked, and their minimum is a grand! Oh well, back to the drawing board. _________________ "They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."

I brought some M.H. chicken breats and mashies on the last GC trek, and they turned out really great. 2 servings at 4.5oz
Rehydrate the meat for like 5 mins and then cook the mashies with the leftover hot water.
I thought it would be rubbery like most dehydrated meat, but it was quite good. |
