From the Payson Roundup

The Horseshoe Fire, which was reported Wednesday morning has grown to seven acres, but firefighters hope to have it contained sometime tomorrow.

The fire, caused by a campfire, is just west of Promontory Butte near Horton Creek. Resources still on hand from the February Fire, including three helicopters, are supporting 35 Tonto National Forest personnel, according to Payson Ranger District Fire Prevention Officer Gary Roberts.

Watch for more details in the Friday edition of the Payson Roundup.

Probably be the only fire anywhere in that area for some time; you can bet there'll be no campfires allowed 'til the monsoon.

Agreed! I'm sure the entire state will be under fire and burning restrictions well into the summer, possibly beyond.

I was dreading this death march, I'm secretly glad it may not come off, I was beginning to buckle under the strain.

Aside from the July Mt. Baldy GHOTM the Weminuche Wilderness area northeast of Durango, Colorado would be fantastic in the summer. Last year a lot of it was difficult to access due to heavy snow fall and lots of downed trees. If that is the case again this year you could head south to the South San Juan Wilderness and Continental Divide area around the Plateros Reservoir. In early July last year we beat the monsoon season with only short lived afternoon high elevation thunderstorms. The mosquitos were worse than I expected though. Figure on a full day to drive over there. As time gets closer I'll try and schedule something if I can work this in this summer.
