Spent a little time midmorning hiking and napping Willow Springs Canyon in the Goldfields, north of Apache Junction.
Woke up to a couple of Phainopeplas 's cheerfully singing (their song is just a couple of notes) in some mesquite trees overhead. At least I would like to think they were happy, due to the drought there is not much mistletoe fo them. |

If there is no mistletoe, perhaps they won't sit under it and kiss. If they don't sit under it and kiss maybe they won't lay any eggs. And then there won't be any new phainopeplas.
Up where I live we have Hopis to do rain dances for us. No, really, they do! We haven't had much rain nor snow, but we did have a good little one last week.
So you Valley folks need to get some Hopis to go there and do their rain dance for you! |
