Aren't lynx and bobcats very similar? In a National Geographic book I have it says that bobcats are just a smaller version of the Canada lynx. I have never heard of there being lynx in AZ, however, it could be a large bobcat or an escaped pet lynx. Tall as a mastiff, though? That'd be one heck of a bobcat! Hmm... It'd be nice to see those photos! Better watch out for your little Fifi dog in that neighborhood!

Yup, Azbackpacker, he has seen lots of Bobcats there, but never something this big; maybe a mutant Bobcat?? Shocked After all I have a 22# large and solid Siamese!

Maybe it's not a mutant, maybe there is just a LOT of really good food in that neighborhood! (Anybody missing a pet?) But seriously, it's not inconceivable that it could be an escaped pet lynx (or even one that's allowed to roam by its owner--now there's a scary thought!)

BTW anybody read Home is the Desert, by Ann Woodin? Her family kept a lot of wild animals that had lost their mothers, or gotten injured, etc., while her husband was director of the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum in Tucson. But they didn't cage them, they let them come and go. Some of them would stay around, some of them would leave but come back to visit later on. It's a really neat book, even though what they did isn't recommended nowadays.
