I used to always use a funnel, filters and bring whatever coffee I am currently drinking. Put funnel on tall cup, fold filter to fit, put in funnel, put in coffee, pour boiling water through. This arrangement has worked well for me for many years on short trips. For the one-week trip in the Sierras I used (gag puke) Folger's coffee bags (just like tea bags). I used two per cup and also added a little hot cocoa mix to cover up the (gag puke) Folger's taste. I also brought caffeine pills just in case there was a lack of caffeine in the (gag puke) Folger's but it seemed to have enough. I would do the (gag puke) Folger's again the same way, with the cocoa, as it is very convenient, affordable and is available in my town as well. (I'm aware of the internet options, but they are a lot more spendy.) The coffee bags were much more convenient, took up less space in my bear canister, and produced less waste than the funnel & filter method. I did not consider using instant coffee as it seems to have almost no caffeine in it at all, and it tastes much worse even than the (gag puke) Folger's. |

Yeah, this is a little pricey, but had a gift certificate for REI about a year ago. This little thing does a great job for one, two people is kind of a pain because you have to wait for more to steep.

How the heck are you people getting the sale prices already. I click on the licks you provide and all I see is full retail. Are you cross referencing the Leaflet with the web site or sumthin'? _________________ "Surely all God's people, however serious or savage, great or small, like to play. I've been waiting to see this since I saw it in Backpacker Magazine's Gear Review. GSI still doesn't have it on their website yet. I think this is in my backpacking future. I'm tired of carrying heavy coffee presses and busting them in camp.
steeps a fine brew of tea or coffee in your water bottle
close the lid & tuck it inside you jacket on those cold camp mornings
make cowboy coffee by mixing grinds & water below the filter then serve ground free back through the filter with ease
threaded cap screws into gsi & nalgene quart wide mouth water bottles & allows the cap to be attached for added warmth & less spills
twist-on filter is light & small enough for backpacking
fits most standard, wide-mouth water bottles
keeps grounds separate for easy clean-up
specifications >
weight- 1.83 oz.
length- 3.15"
width- 3.15"
height- 4.98"

I saw it @ Tempe REI today for the first time.
You should really try Java Juice, if you haven't, though. It's quick, easy & tastes pretty good too.
Again @ REI, I also saw a light that screws onto a Nalgene and illuminates down into the bottle/liquid so as to be kind of a glowing lamp.
I believe the name was "lightning bug" or something similar. _________________ "They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."
