|
|
How about this: Head in to Reavis Ranch Saturday morning; those who choose can make it an in and out day hike; others camp Saturday night, hiking out Sunday; and then those who choose can camp both Saturday and Sunday nights, hiking out Monday.
I'd like to give it a shot, but am definately a greenhorn having done only one other backpack, the one with GTG and Kurthzone to BA Campground last October. Any others interested? |

There are three roads used once one leaves the (US 60) Highway. The first is the Hewitt Valley Road (can't remember the #). Then we take FS 172 to a junction with FS 172A. The tougher part is limited to 172A. Possibly even a sedan could make it to this junction. The 172A leg is about 3.5 miles. If we discover that some of the vehicles can't make it. A couple shuttles courtesy of our 4x4 participants would cover the gap. There are places available to park off the road near the junction as I recall.
I may try to prescout this in my 2wd mini-truck just to see. In the event of significant rain, the FS 172 crossing of Queen Creek is tenuous. It drains a large area. A friend submarined a 1956 Chevy Apache Pickup (With Posi!!) here in 1973, right up to the bottom of the windshield. Likewise, it is wise to leave your itinerary with someone responsible in the event that flood runoff occurs while we are in there. Then, rescuers can fling pizza and beer (and clean socks) across the flood to us who are "struck on the wilderness" side until the waters recede.
I've been told it could take 40 days and 40 nights for the flood waters to recede (Oh Please, Oh Please!!!) -R |

It's official...I'm not going to be able to swing this one...with our marathon schedule indicating a 20 mile run on that Sunday, I don't think it would be prudent to spend the two days prior backpacking. I know it's a short backpack, but after running 18 miles today, I can't imagine trying to duplicate the experience (+2 miles) after a weekend backpacking trip...so, I'm dropping out early.

Well, it's obvious I'm not going to be able to make this, so hope someone will step forward and take charge. Any volunteers _________________ John Richardson and Richie Rich, El Perro de Playero

Can we get the intinerary for this hike again. Plus also the roads and trails needed for the backpack in.
Perhaps Nealz could fill me in.
Sorry to be such a pain, but, I am not familiar with the Superstitions at all.
Thanks
